Uncle Iroh Tattoo And Other Collectibles For You

In this article, we have listed some of the best collectibles based on Uncle Iroh. The list includes everything from an Uncle Iroh tattoo to mugs and T-shirts based on him. Uncle Iroh is one of the most beloved characters of all time. Not only did he provide the required comic relief, but he was also one of the wisest characters on Avatar: The Last Airbender (TV Series). He treated Zuko as his own son and went on a self-imposed exile after the banishment of Zuko from the Fire Nation.

He was also shown to have a deep understanding and respect for the spirit world. And was also one of the very few characters that could see the spirits. Uncle Iroh was one of the greatest generals of the Fire Nation in the Hundred Year War and was also supposed to become the Firelord after Azulon’s death by birthright.

But his younger brother Max Ozai took the throne after an extensive plot against Firelord Azulon. He poisoned his father and took the throne after declaring it as his father’s dying wish.

But by that time, Iroh had already lost interest in the politics of his nation. This was primarily because of the death of his only son Lu Ten. And as the series progressed, we saw that Iroh matured and developed a deep affection for Zuko.

And took it on himself to guide the young prince on the true path to his destiny. He was also a member of the White Lotus and liberated Ba Sing Se from the Fire Nation when Sozin’s Comet arrived.

Buff Iroh

Buff Iroh and His Prison Break On The Day of Black of Sun

Buff Iroh is probably one of the most surprising turnouts in the series. Yes, we knew Aang would beat the Fire Lord, but one thing we didn’t count on was the tea-loving, fat-belied, duck-eating older man to get ripped and become buff Iroh suddenly. Instead, he went from eating with much gusto to sporting a full set of abs.

Iroh was a retired Fire Nation general, a former Crown Prince of the nation, a Grand Lotus of the Order of the White Lotus, a firebending master, and a wise mentor to his nephew Zuko. He was the elder son of Fire Lord Azulon and Ilah and the older brother of Ozai. Iroh’s well-known ability to breathe fire and his claims of “slaying” the last dragon earned him the honorary title “The Dragon of the West” became “Buff Iroh”.

Prelude to The Buff Iroh

Several things led to the capture and imprisonment of Iroh. In reality, Iroh was a grand lotus of the secret society, the Order of the White Lotus. The Order of the White Lotus, which transcended the boundaries of the four nations. The organization has members spread far and wide across the world, even in desolate, remote villages of the Earth Kingdom.

Iroh and Zuko sought their aid in avoiding the bounty hunters Master Yu and Xin Fu, who temporarily decided to seek the two fugitives from the firebending nation rather than pursue the Avatar and Toph. However, on short notice, the Order managed to produce fake passports and other paperwork to smuggle Iroh and Zuko into Ba Sing Se.

They managed to get into Ba Sing Se to start new lives for themselves, which was the safest route for the duo to take.

With the help of the Order of the White Lotus’ Iroh and Zuko were able to make their way to Ba Sing Se, disguised as refugees. Once inside, a series of events occurred. Events like Iroh getting them jobs at a tea shop. While on a day off, Iroh spent the day shopping in the city.

During his travels, Iroh displayed his kindness and his skill as a teacher. He granted wisdom and help to all those he encountered during his day of shopping. He later held a small memorial service for Lu Ten, marking his late son’s birthday, and tearfully said he wished he could have helped Lu Ten and that he would ‘see him again.

After weeks in Ba Sing Se, Iroh was given a chance to run his own tea shop, but Zuko had other plans. After he became aware that the Avatar was in Ba Sing Se and had lost his Bison, he devised his own plans.

When Zuko attempted to capture Appa, Iroh confronted Zuko and told him rather bluntly to stop trying to live the life people said he had to live. In addition, Iroh convinced Zuko to give up his alias as the Blue Spirit. After this event, Zuko became ill as a result of his actions under Lake Laogai.

Iroh explained that they were incomplete conflicts with Zuko’s image of himself. Nevertheless, he cared for him like he would his own son. Through the ordeal, Iroh reassured Zuko that when he came out of his illness, he would be the “beautiful prince” he was always meant to be and remained confident that Zuko would be the one person to redeem the wrongdoings of the Fire Nation.

Soon after, he became better with a positive and chippy side. This was even much weirder than his actions under Lake Laogai. He was excited to run a tea shop and became even more hopeful.

Azula, planning a coup would put a stop to all that. When Azula offered Zuko a chance to reclaim his honor by helping take over the Earth Kingdom capital, he agreed. Iroh, taking on Azula and the Dai Li warriors, had to take on Zuko as well, much to his pain.

He would have laid down his life as he had to stand down. He was last seen defending the lifeless body of the Avatar as he ordered Katara to get him out. He gave them time to escape before he peacefully allowed himself to be captured. Iroh made eye contact with Zuko before turning away, expressing shame at his nephew’s decision.

Iroh Imprisoned So He Became Buff Iroh

After this, Iroh was imprisoned. He never said a word even as Zuko would secretly visit him in the tower where he was being held prisoner. After a few trials to visit, he eventually summoned the courage to go, after threatening the guard to keep silent about the visit.

Zuko tried severally to talk to his uncle, only to have Iroh turn away from him and say nothing. Zuko later brought food to Iroh and asked for his help. Iroh continued to remain silent, causing Zuko to become angry and storm out of the room. A single tear rolled down Iroh’s face. The pain took for him to behave that way towards his nephew, who was a son, was overwhelming.

Iroh Loved Zuko More Than His Own Father

While Iroh was in prison he became the buff Iroh, the Warden, Poon, came to give Iroh his food. Poon mocked am intentionally disheveled Iroh as he scrambled for the food after he had tossed it on the floor. He even scooped what had fallen onto the ground into his mouth. As soon as Poon was gone, he became more collected, wiped the stray hair out of his face, and calmly finished his meal in peace.

This time, he only ate out of the bowl. Iroh was shown again, calmly lying on the ground, deep in thought. Suddenly his eyes widened, and he began aggressively doing bent-knee sit-ups. This was the process that led him to be buff. He had been doing these exercises at every chance he got, which was almost every time.

Later, Iroh was still mocked and ridiculed by Poon while still feigning insanity, as was his habit at the prison. Nevertheless, Iroh continued to train in Poon’s absence. At this point, he is shown to have upgraded to straight-legged inverted sit-ups.

He kept up the facade of loneliness and desperation in front of Poon. Iroh was seen to be training whenever he was not being watched. He became very much able to perform difficult exercises, including inverted crunches, inverted push-ups, and one-handed pull-ups.

Still keeping his jailer unaware, Iroh had managed to recondition his body to a more intimidating form. He had even managed to lose his pronounced signature belly that we came to know him with. He slyly hid his belly by stuffing spare clothing under his robes. This was to dissuade his jailer and keep them in the dark. Buff Iroh is a surprise we were not ready for but delighted to have in the series.

Katara After The War

In the year following the war’s conclusion, Katara and Team Avatar helped Fire Nation colonials resettle in their homeland. These people were individuals that had been temporarily displaced from their homeland and were forced to live in the Fire Nation. This action was tagged as the Harmony Restoration Movement. However, when the team came to Yu Dao, they were attacked by Fire Army soldiers and confronted by Zuko.

Aang and Zuko began to battle, but Katara managed to calm her boyfriend after entering the Avatar State. The Fire Lord explained that people of Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom descent lived together for generations, unlike in the newer colonies.

Katara and the team traveled to Ba Sing Se to discuss the Yu Dao situation with the Earth King, and while waiting, the two met a group of young women who had devoted themselves to Aang and Air Nomad teachings. This was the beginning of the Air Acolytes.

At first, Katara was somewhat jealous, but soon, she realized that they reminded Aang of his people. Unfortunately, the couple failed to change the current course of events. The Earth King planned on attacking the Fire Nation colonies.

Dejected, they quickly returned to Yu Dao to evacuate its citizens. At this point, they were met by the Yu Dao Resistance before they explained the impending attack. Enraged, Aang concluded that the four nations must remain separate after meeting the Air Nomad devotees in Yu Dao; Katara reminded him that the separation was an illusion.

As the armies arrived, Katara told him that she saw their own future as a couple of different nations reflected in the families of Yu Dao. Then, as the battle raged on, Katara propelled herself up to the Earth King’s war balloon to help convince him that he was fighting a battle against his own nation.

After the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation agreed to make peace, Katara observed Aang welcomed his devotees as the first Air Acolytes.

Later Life of Katara

The couple (Katara and Aang) became very busy trying to restore displaced individuals to their homes. Katara, growing old, she and Aang, after the Harmony Restoration Movement, got married. Katara married Aang, and they gave birth to three children.

Bumi, the firstborn, a non-bender who gained the ability to air bend later in life; Kya, a water bender; and Tenzin, who was born an Airbender like his father, to begin with. Katara continued to develop her skills in waterbending, eventually becoming a leading expert in its various styles and respective skills and techniques and being regarded as the best healer in the world.

She passed on these skills to her only daughter, Kya, who became a renowned water bender in her own right.

In 124 AG, Katara wrote a letter to include in the book that Aang was assembling for Tenzin, in which she wished her son the joys of youth and the strength to accept his legacy as one of the world’s last airbenders. Sometime later in her lifetime, her only daughter Kya revealed her sexual orientation to her.

Old Katara was even more understanding and supportive of her than expected. She soon became the paternal grandmother of Jinora, Ikki, Meelo, and Rohan through Tenzin, who eventually married Pema. However, Tenzin had dated Lin, Toph’s first daughter, for a while. Unfortunately, it never worked out between the two of them.

As she grew older, more and more water benders would use Blood bending for their evil purposes. Before 128 AG, Katara’s efforts led to the outlawing of bloodbending in the United Republic. After the passing of Avatar Aang and his reincarnation into the new Avatar, Korra, she became the Avatar’s waterbending teacher once again.

Teaching the Avatar Water Bending

After Avatar Aang passed away, his new incarnation Korra was fortunately born in the South Pole. She quickly manifested all three bending arts at a very young age. However, only when she trained with Katara did she truly get the hang of water bending and become a master. As at the time when the live animation series aired, Korra could hold her own in waterbending without a problem.

During one of her early training sessions with a young Korra, Katara taught her that waterbending was all about slow and calm movements. As we all know, Korra had immense issues with learning airbending as it was her complete opposite but elementally and in nature too. This was also the case in terms of waterbending. While she could freely bend the element, relying on brute force, true mastery was required to control and calmness, much like air bending.

Katara’s lesson did not stick with Korra. She, however, accidentally buried Katara under a pile of snow, not for the first time. This was when she tried to copy Katara’s moves which were clearly too advanced for her.

Uncovering the elder, Senna apologized for her daughter, though Katara brushed it off. She noted that she had battled more dangerous waterbenders during her life than the youngster. She also expressed a certain amount of confidence that Avatar will learn to control her abilities in time.

The session for that day did, however, get cut short by Tonraq, her father. Apparently, there was a huge snowstorm heading their way.

It took a while before they knew that Korra had gone missing. However, upon learning the next day that Korra had snuck out during that bad weather, Katara joined Tonraq and Senna to search for their daughter.

They discovered the young Avatar safe and sound with a polar bear pup. She expressed her desire to keep it. However, it was Katara that convinced Tonraq and Senna to let her bring the animal home. She noted that every Avatar had had an animal guide and that raising Naga may be exactly what the high-energy Avatar needed.

Afterward, Katara and Korra continued with their waterbending lessons. Korra often spent a lot of time in Katara’s healing hut growing up, where she taught Korra to mend wounds and broken bones. Korra eventually became a skilled healer under Katara’s instruction.

Old Katara Supervising Korra

In 170 AG, Katara supervised Korra’s firebending test alongside other members of the Order of the White Lotus. She noted the Avatar’s ferocity, to which the White Lotus leader responded that she also lacked restraint.

After Korra defeated her opponents, the White Lotus turned to Katara for counsel, wondering whether or not they should let Korra start her airbending training with Tenzin since the young Avatar had yet to grasp the spiritual side of bending.

Confident in her son’s abilities, Katara announced that she believed Korra to be ready to commence her airbending training, as Tenzin would be able to teach her what she needed to know.

When Tenzin and his family arrived at the Southern Water Tribe compound, Katara and Korra greeted Tenzin and his family. At her son’s asking, Katara helped Meelo off his head, much to her grandson’s displeasure.

As she expressed her joy overseeing her family again, Jinora approached her, informing her that she had read everything about her past adventures and asked what happened to Zuko’s mother, Ursa. Katara attempted to elaborate, only to be interrupted by an excited Ikki, who fired several random questions at the old Katara.

Old Katara did great things, and as at the time when we see her in Korra, she is over eighty years old.

Katara Bloodbending: How Katara Mastered the Dark Art

Katara’s bloodbending is one of the scariest and most fearful phases we saw Katara in the entire series. Katara was always housing anger for the death of her mother against the Fire Nation. This is shown in how she treated Zuko when he decided that he wanted to be part of the team.

After going on a journey with the Avatar, Katara came across a water bender that taught her how to blood bend.

What is Blood Bending?

Bloodbending is a specialized sub-skill and a rare variation of waterbending that allows an extremely advanced water bender to take hold of and manipulate fluids within an organism’s body. This allows the bender to move the person’s muscles.

This technique is referred to as the highest level of waterbending that there is and is also known as the darkest, most powerful, and most feared of all bending techniques. Blood bending in itself is the only artist known to endanger the user’s mental state. It puts the user in a state that is beyond reasoning, giving them a sense of power.

The technique was discovered by a water bender named Hama while she was detained in prison designed by the Fire Nation specifically to hold waterbenders. During her detainment, she realized that all life contains water. She proceeded to develop the knowledge and skills of the art by practicing on elephant rats, later employing the technique on her guards to escape.

The forms and styles used by blood benders are similar to how a puppeteer would gesture and move to control their marionette. However, waterbending uses flowing motions with the arms. Thus, there is a more fluid feel to the art of waterbending. Bloodbending, however, seems to require and male use of a more rigid and abrupt form of movement. This further highlights how fundamentally different it is from the primary waterbending forms and its other sub-skill, healing.

Due to its extreme nature, only a handful of waterbenders have demonstrated the ability to blood bend. As a result, the technique is deemed a dark art and is rarely used in combat by most waterbenders.

The complexity and sophistication required to perform the art usually only allows for its use during a full moon when a water bender’s power is at its absolute peak. Only Yakone, Tarrlok, and Amon have shown the ability to perform the art without the aid of the full moon.

Being naturally talented and having trained vigorously, Yakone and Amon were capable of bloodbending without using their arms, also known as psychic bloodbending.

Bloodbending is infrequently applied to daily activities. However, knowledge of the art eventually became known to the public, and the practice of bloodbending was outlawed due to the efforts of Katara following the formation of Republic City.

Hama teaching Katara Bloodbending

After being captured during one of the Fire Nation raids aimed at weakening the Southern Water Tribe, Hama and her fellow waterbenders were sent to a maximum-security prison in the Fire Nation designed specifically to hold benders of her kind.

There, the guards were cautious of providing prisoners with any form of bendable substance that they could utilize in making a reprisal, going so far as to chain the prisoners’ limbs before they were allowed to drink and using “cruel retribution” at any sign of resistance.

Despite the helplessness she faced while imprisoned, Hama was able to feel the enrichment provided to her by the full moon. So she began to devise a plan that would lead to her escape and eventually realized that the elephant rats constantly scurrying around the bottom of her cage were filled with bendable water.

When the next full moon came, she was able to bend the blood in the rats.

She continued to practice until she was ready for the guards. Then, she successfully freed herself from the metal cage that had confined her for so many years.

Unable to go home, she stayed in the fire nation, ultimately developing a measure of hatred for them while she stayed hidden in their midst.

During the summer of 100 AG, Team Avatar decided to camp near a Fire Nation village. This was when they were in the fire nation. Unbeknownst to them, Hama overheard them telling horror stories and deduced from Katara’s story about Nini. She concluded that they were from the Southern Water Tribe and offered the group a place in her inn.

Due to curiosity, they snooped around the old Lady’s room. Upon discovering an old whale tooth comb in Hama’s attic, she revealed herself to be a water bender from the Southern Water Tribe and proposed to teach Katara some original Southern Tribe waterbending techniques so that she could pass on the knowledge of the Southern customs before her death, to which Katara happily agreed.

Katara Bloodbending Ability

An excited Katara was happy to learn from a Southern Water Tribe water bender. Katara spent the next day learning several new techniques from Hama. First, she learned that water could be pulled out of random places.

She picked up techniques such as bending moisture from the air and water from within plants, including fire lilies. This was going to prove invaluable knowledge when no bodies of water were present.

Hama told Katara that she would teach her the ultimate waterbending technique at night when their powers were at their peak during the full moon. Katara was hesitant, claiming that villagers had been disappearing during the full moon. However, Hama seemed unaffected, stated that two master waterbenders under a full moon had nothing to worry about.

That night, Hama took Katara to the forest, where she explained her imprisonment and discovery of bloodbending. Katara was horrified and refused to learn the art when Hama urged her. This angered Hama, who used bloodbending to control Katara.

The young water bender pleaded for mercy, but Hama refused to release her. Then, feeling the moon’s power enforce her waterbending as well, Katara honed her energy and broke free, stating that her own bending was more powerful than Hama’s. The two began to duel, and Katara almost immediately took the upper hand.

Having discovered the truth about Hama from the villagers she imprisoned deep within the mountain, Sokka and Aang arrived soon afterward to aid Katara and told Hama to surrender since she was clearly outnumbered.

Hama refused and used bloodbending to control them. Then, like a puppet master, she used them to attack Katara, though the young water bender managed to avoid being hit. Then, adopting a different approach, Hama maneuvered Aang toward Sokka, who had raised his sword. In an attempt to save Aang, Katara used bloodbending to stop her, effectively breaking Hama’s hold on the boys.

A sobbing Katara, still feeling like she had tapped into something she shouldn’t have.

Hama has led away, the villagers commenting that she was going to rot. Hama snickered, satisfied as she replied that her work was done. She told Katara with a satisfactory grin that she was a blood bender now.

The Best Toph Quotes From Avatar: The Last Airbender

Toph is one of the best characters on Avatar: The Last Airbender (TV Series). The fact that she is blind makes her character even makes her more interesting. As even without sight she is easily ranked among the top Earthbenders of the Avatar universe. She even went on to develop Metalbending, a technique previously thought impossible. She used the grains of Earth inside the metallic structures to accomplish this feat. But apart from all these accomplishments, she is even more famous among Avatar fans because of her comic timing. Toph is responsible for some of the best comedy quotes on the show.

And in this article, we will list some of the best Toph quotes that we think are worthy of making our list. Toph was not only an extremely skilled bender but was also the character responsible for giving us some of the funniest scenes on the show. She even called Aang Twinkle-toes. And in The Legend of Korra, she still called Aang twinkle-toes. And when Korra locates Toph for the first time in the swamp, she again refers to Korra as twinkle-toes.

Toph Quotes

In this section we have listed some of the best Toph quotes that we think deserve to be on this list.

Quote No 1

“Twinkle-Toes”

Toph used to call Aang twinkle-toes because he was light on his feet. And during their first encounter in “The Blind Bandit” Aang attacked Toph in their duel using his Airbending ability. Because of this Toph could not sense the Avatar and lost the match after being pushed out of the ring.

Quote No 2

“I Can Tell You’re Lying!”

This amazing quote is a testament to the heightened senses that Toph possesses. When Katara says that she never had feelings for Jet, Toph says this quote indicating that she could sense her feelings for jet.

Quote No 3

“The Obedient, Little Helpless Blind Girl That You Think I Am Just Isn’t Me. I Love Fighting. I Love Being An Earthbender.”

This was the iconic quote that Toph said to her parents when they discovered their daughter’s bending abilities. In response to this show of emotions, her father ordered her to increase her security full time as she was blind.

Quote No 4

“I Am The Greatest Earthbender In The World! Don’t You Two Dunderheads Ever Forget It!”

This was the iconic quote that Toph said when she invented metal bending and freed herself from the metallic chest she was imprisoned in. She then went on to trap Xin Fu and Master Yu inside the same chest they had locked her previously. She said this quote after trapping both of them and broke out of the metallic prison.

Quote No 5

“There’s No Different Angle, No Clever Solution, No Trickity Trick That’s Gonna Move That Rock. You Gotta Face It Head On.”

We all know that Toph is not the easiest of teachers. And when she was teaching Aang Earthbending, it was particularly difficult for him to learn. This was because Earthbending was the exact opposite of Airbending so it was difficult for him naturally.

Toph said this quote to Aang after he was trying to do Earthbending with the Airbender mindset.

Quote No 6

“It’s Upside Down, Isn’t It?”

When the Team Avatar was searching for Appa in Ba Sing Se, they were pasting the fliers with Appa’s image all over the city. But to cover more ground Sokka proposed to split up and asked Toph to stick with him. Toph takes offense to this comment and tries to prove that she’s perfectly capable of taking on the task on her own. She defiantly slaps a poster onto the wall, but it’s facedown. After which she says this quote making her comment that much funnier.

Well. You can go ahead and let me drown now.”

Quote No 8

“I’m Beginning To Wonder Who’s Really The Blind One Around Here.”

When Zuko approaches the Team Avatar at the Western Air Temple and offered to join them as well as train Aang. The team said no and sent him away. To which Toph said this quote to the rest of the team realizing the importance of Zuko for their team.

Quote No 9

Look! There it is! [Everyone turns around excitedly, but it’s not there.] That’s what it will sound like when one of you spots it.

Toph says this quote mocking her blindness in the most badass way possible.

Quote No 10

“I Am Not Toph, I Am Melon Lord!”

When the team Avatar are training Aang for his fight against Firelord Max Ozai. In this regard they prepare a dummy of the Firelord and ask Toph to act his part. At this time Toph introduces herself as the Melon Lord by saying this quote.

But we see in the last book Sokka gets another weapon which became his second favorite only after the boomerang. The particular weapon we are referring to is the Space Sword of Sokka. Sokka was also involved in the forging of this weapon as well. And he even selected the material of the sword himself. Because of these efforts, a strong connection was formed between Sokka and his sword.

Sokka is one of the most important characters of the team Avatar. He played an essential role in making Aang train all the elements in time. He was the one who scheduled everything. Sokka calculated the time down to every last second and arranged the team’s travels as per the plan.

Sokka made the team follow his schedule as well. There are many factors behind Avatar Aang being able to master all the elements. And Sokka’s planning was probably the most important factor behind this feat.

Sokka also planned the assault on the Fire Nation on the Day of The Black Sun. His plan was absolutely perfect and destined for success. However, the attack failed because Azula accidentally discovered the plan while she was in Ba Sing Se imposing as a Kyoshi warrior. The fans even argue that if Azula never found the plan, maybe Avatar Aang would have defeated Firelord Max Ozai during the Day Of The Black Sun invasion.

Sokka’s Doubts

But even though Sokka was an integral and one of the most important members of the Team Avatar, he still was not a bender. This inability to bend any of the elements sometimes left Sokka feeling doubtful of himself and his abilities. One of such instances occurred when the Team Avatar was in the Fire Nation. Sokka was feeling doubtful that his abilities were not enough compared to the other bending members of the team. At this time, he saw a pamphlet that Master Swordsman Piandao is looking for a student.

Sokka was skeptical at first because the team was already behind schedule. And he also did not want to study under the tutelage of someone belonging to the Fire Nation as this might blow their cover and expose the team. But he changed his mind after Katara, Aang and Toph encouraged him. After that, he went to Piandao to join him as his student.

Sokka’s Selection

When Sokka went to Piandao’s home, where he was received by Piandao’s butler “Fat,” He asked Sokka if he brought any offering for the Master? To which Sokka refused. At this, Fat guided him inside the home by saying, “Let’s get it over with,” implying that he was not going to be selected.

Because Piandao had rejected all the candidates until that time, Piandao was doing calligraphy when Sokka introduced himself. The master guessed the usual story that the best swordsman from his town is here.

But after hearing this, Sokka replied that he might have traveled worldwide, but he knows for sure that he has a lot to learn. And also that he is not even sure of his worthiness. But this was what Piandao was looking for, and Sokka is selected.

Sokka begins his training after the Sword Master gives him a formal training outfit and demonstrates the sword. He also tells Sokka that a sword is an extension of oneself and must be thought of as a part of one’s body. He further explains that a sword is just a weapon, but a sword becomes the most versatile weapon in the hands of a Master who utilizes endless possibilities.

Sword of Sokka

Sokka started his training and improved drastically over the span of just a few days. He was initially sparring with the butler named “Fat.” And can beat him after improvising some of the movers he learned and using the surroundings to his advantage.

After defeating Fat, Piandao deemed Sokka worthy of having his own sword and took him to the workshop where some materials were initially present. But Sokka asked that if he can bring the material of his own choice to Piandao. To which the Sword Master replied that he wouldn’t have had any other way”.

Sokka went to the meteorite crash site that the team Avatar witnessed earlier and brought the rubble from the meteorite to build his sword. He even helped build his sword. When the Sword Master bestows the sword on Sokka, stating that he is the most talented student he has ever seen.

Sokka tells him the truth about being from the Water tribe. Piandao attacks Sokka, and they continue fighting for quite some time. Sokka uses his surroundings and the things he has learned to match his more skilled Master. And even earns the approval of his master several times during the fight.

But Piandao eventually gets the upper hand, and Sokka accepts defeat. Piandao then reveals that he had known about him from the beginning because of his name. And even points towards Aang calling him The Avatar. But also states that the art of Sword does not belong to one Nation and gives the Sword to Sokka. And emphasizes that he will have to train himself from now on, and he will someday become an even greater Master than Piandao himself.

Future of Sword

Sokka named the Sword the “Space Sword,” and it had a unique black color similar to the color of the meteorite’s rubble. Sokka used the sword on all his adventures regularly after that. But when he and Toph were cornered by the Fire Nation ship, Sokka threw both his Boomerang and Sword at them to buy more time. Unfortunately, it was at this time that both the Boomerang and Space Sword was lost after falling in the jungle below them.

Iroh’s Son: Everything You Need To Know About Lu Ten

Of the many tales in Avatar: The Last Airbender, none is as heart-wrenching as Iroh’s son, Lu Ten.

Prince Lu Ten was the son of General Iroh, the nephew of Ozai and Ursa; the cousin of Zuko and Azula, the grandson of Azulon, the great-grandson of Sozin; and second in line to the Fire Nation throne. While serving his nation in combat as a soldier in the Fire Army, he was killed during his father’s famous six-hundred-day Siege of Ba Sing Se.

The death of Iroh’s Son had a traumatic impact upon his father, causing him to abandon the siege, ultimately providing an opportunity for Ozai to usurp the birthright of Fire Lord from his brother.

History of Iroh’s Son: Lu Ten

The Dragon of The West and Iroh’s Son had a strong relationship during Lu Ten’s childhood, which remained during adulthood. Lu Ten also enjoyed visiting Ember Island with the rest of the royal family.

At some point, Iroh’s Son became a soldier in the Fire Nation military, serving under his father’s command. Despite this, they remained jovial and informal in each other’s presence even when on duty.

Lu Ten lost his life in combat against the Earth Kingdom, just five years before the end of the Hundred Year War during the Siege of Ba Sing Se. He was mortally wounded around the same time that Iroh breached the city’s Outer Wall, although his father only later learned of his son’s situation. By the time he was informed, Lu Ten was dead.

Legacy Of Iroh’s Son

Iroh was so heartbroken by his son’s death that he abandoned the city’s siege, claiming that he and his men were exhausted from the extensive time away from home. However, when his brother, Prince Ozai, learned of Lu Ten’s death and Iroh’s subsequent actions, he petitioned their father; Fire Lord Azulon; to appoint him as heir to the throne; claiming that Lu Ten’s death meant that the royal bloodline would end with Iroh; since he had no other heir.

Azulon was enraged at such a request and saw fit to have Ozai’s firstborn, Prince Zuko, killed as punishment, but because of his mysterious death soon after, Ozai was able to take the throne. Although Iroh was the elder brother, he did not challenge Ozai’s claim, as he was too devastated by the death of both Lu Ten and Azulon. Moreover, he had lost his desire for power.

Iroh eventually managed to access the Spirit World, where he searched for Lu Ten, to no avail. Overall, the loss of his son and the experiences during his travels had a profound effect upon Iroh, whose personality shifted more toward a calm acceptance of life rather than continuing to participate in the Fire Nation’s war efforts.

The Death of Iroh’s Son Was Pivotal To The Story In The Last Airbender

The course of history in Avatar: The Last Airbender might have been different; if it wasn’t for the death of Uncle Iroh’s son, Prince Lu Ten. Throughout the series, Iroh acted as a wise and calming father figure to the angry exiled Prince Zuko, providing the positive influence that eventually led Zuko down a path of redemption. But Iroh wasn’t always the kindly older man that fans know from the series.

The Avatar season 2 episode “Zuko Alone” was key in revealing the story of how Iroh lost his son, and in turn, lost all interest in ruling as Fire Lord. Known as “The Dragon of the West,” Iroh led the famous 600-day Siege of Ba Sing Se, the Earth Kingdom’s nigh-impenetrable walled city.

During the siege, Iroh cultivated a great deal of admiration for Ba Sing Se; and later returned there under more peaceful circumstances. However, Ba Sing Se isn’t just important to Iroh because of its impressive defenses. It’s also the place where he lost his only son.

Lu Ten

Prince Lu Ten was a soldier in the Fire Nation army and died in the Hundred Year War; during the Siege of Ba Sing Se – though not necessarily in that particular campaign. A letter from Lu Ten to his father reads, “See you after we win the war,” implying that Lu Ten may actually have died fighting elsewhere in the Earth Kingdom, far away from his father. Unlike Ozai and Zuko, Iroh and Lu Ten were extremely close, and Iroh loved his son very deeply.

The death of Lu Ten killed Iroh’s appetite for war. He ended the siege and returned home to the Fire Nation with his exhausted army. Iroh’s father, Fire Lord Azulon, had also been killed, secretly poisoned by Zuko’s mother, Ursa, in a bargain for Zuko’s life.

Despite being the younger of the two brothers, Ozai had ascended to the throne of the Fire Nation, claiming that it had been Azulon’s final wish. Under other circumstances, Iroh might have challenged this claim; but in the wake of Lu Ten’s death, he had no interest in ruling.

How Things Would Have Been If Lu Ten Did Not Die

Had Iroh’s Son lived, things would have played out very differently in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Though Iroh was more enthusiastic about war before he lost his son; (in a letter to his family, he joked that they might not be able to see Ba Sing Se; if he burned it to the ground); he wasn’t anywhere close to being as evil as his brother.

In a flashback, a young Azula disgustedly refers to her uncle as “his royal tea-loving kooky-ness,”; and other snapshots from the past show Uncle Iroh being affectionate; towards his son and sending gifts to his niece and nephew. It’s hard to picture Fire Lord Iroh carrying out Ozai’s plan of using Sozin’s Comet to destroy the Earth Kingdom.

Though it happened years before the series begins, the death of Iroh’s Son is one of the great tragedies of Avatar: The Last Airbender. In the season 2 episode “Tales of Ba Sing Se,”; Iroh offers help, comfort, and guidance to several boys and young men around the city; before arriving at his son’s grave to celebrate Lu Ten’s birthday.

The lullaby he sings, “Leaves from the Vine,” is particularly heartbreaking; because it reveals that from a young age, Iroh referred to his son as “little soldier boy,”; unwittingly setting him down the path that would eventually lead to his death.

Lu Ten’s Death Was A Bittersweet Event

Still, if the death of Iroh’s Son was a dark turning point for the Fire Nation, it was also the tragedy that made Iroh a better man – and Zuko as well. Before his nephew went hunting down the Avatar during the Siege of the North, Iroh told him that he had thought of Zuko as his own ever since Lu Ten’s death. And thanks to Iroh’s tempering influence, Zuko eventually became a far wiser and more noble Fire Lord than his father ever was.

Trivia on Iroh’s Son

  • Iroh’s Son was first mentioned during the Siege of the North; when Iroh informed Zuko that after Lu Ten’s death, he began treating Zuko like his own son.
  • He was mentioned by name for the first time by Ursa in a flashback during “Zuko Alone”.
  • A younger Lu Ten was seen in “Bitter Work”; and a picture of an older Lu Ten was displayed at Iroh’s altar for him; during “Tales of Ba Sing Se”.
  • Zuko had a flashback showing himself, Iroh, and a young Iroh’s Son during “The Beach”. He is pictured as an adult soldier in Avatar: The Last Airbender: Legacy of the Fire Nation.
  • The Avatar Extras bonus commentary for “The Tales of Ba Sing Se” misspelled Lu Ten’s name; spelling it as Lu Tin.
  • The words in the top left of Lu Ten’s portrait can be roughly translated as; “General Iroh, I will see you again when victory is obtained. Your loyal son, Lu Ten”

Some cosplayers are able to recreate these hairstyles perfectly but it takes a lot of time and even more money to replicate these exact styles. Costumes can be copied and weapon props can be bought but the real challenge is to replicate the hairstyles of these animated characters. The fans spend a lot of time and invest a lot of money to get this bit right. Thankfully Sokka has a fairly simple hairstyle that you can get with an even simple haircut. In this article we will look at this iconic Sokka haircut that has now become a very popular hairstyle actually.

Name of Sokka Haircut

Sokka Haircut is widely called the wolf-tail in the Avatar Universe. This hairstyle is mostly used by the male members of the Water Tribe. And this hairstyle is synonymous with the hair loopies that the women of the Water tribe make. Sokka called his wolf-tail as the Warrior’s wolf-tail but Katara teases him by calling the wolf-tail as a ponytail visibly frustrating Sokka.

This haircut is very similar in style to the yop-knot used by the members of the Fire Nation. And when the team Avatar was in the Fire Nation Sokka adjusted in their get-up quite easily. As all he had to do was fix his hair in a top-knot style. The only difference between a wolf-tail and a top knot is that in a wolf-tail, the hair is tied on the backside of the head after the crown of the head. While a top-knot has a knot of hair on the top of the head as the name indicates.

Although Sokka changed his haircut in the form of a top-knot while he was in the Fire Nation with the Team Avatar. But Sokka reverted to his original haircut on the Day Of The Black Sun and kept it afterward for the remaining episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender (TV Series).

Difference Of Sokka Haircut from the Elders

Sokka usually shaved the sides of his head or had little to no hair on the sides so that his warrior wolf-tail stood out. This was done by Sokka regularly as he not only thought of the hairstyle as a symbol of his tribe. But also thought of this haircut as a sign of a warrior. He also named his wolf-tail the warrior wolf-tail in line with this belief of his.

But the elders of the tribe usually grew their side hair more longer even up to their shoulders. So the wolf-tails of the elders of the Water tribe are not as noticeable as compared to Sokka.

Haircut Of Sokka As An Elder

Sokka even kept his unique haircut even when he was quite older. We see him donning the same hairstyle with very few changes in The Legend Of Korra. Sokka is serving as the Chairman of the United Republic Council. This adult version of his warrior wolf-tail resembles a Japanese hairstyle called “Chonmage”.

Sokka Haircut in Daily Routine

Sokka Haircut is fairly simple to maintain as compared to hairstyles of other animated characters. It is also referred to as the man-bun by the modern hairstylists. But it should be specified that man-bun is actually a broad term that covers both top-knot and Sokka haircut depending on the preference of the customer. But the hair-dressers usually categorize both these haircuts in the man-bun category.

If you are interested in getting the Sokka haircut then you can watch this video tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejTyIgfqgws

Iroh and Zuko: The Father & Son Relationship

The relationship between Zuko and Iroh is not an uncommon one. But how it blossoms into what it finally became is one that can be termed as fascinating. It’s not unheard of for an uncle to take a great liking to his nephew, but the affection between these two grew exponentially over time. Iroh acted as a father figure, knowingly or unknowingly, to Zuko in all the ways Ozai failed to. So it was a no-brainer for Zuko to feel the fatherly affection he would be known to feel towards Iroh.

Iroh always cared for Zuko. Having witnessed what the boy Zuko went through as a child, he must have felt an even more urgent need to be there for him. This feeling became even more intense after Lu Ten’s death. Iroh began to think of Zuko as his own son and cared for him like a father.

It may have been the delusions of a lonely older man at first. It was not that he didn’t originally love Zuko, but it could have also been his way of coping with Lu Ten’s death. Iroh supported him in every way he could and was a constant mentor to the troubled boy throughout his banishment. He and Zuko had quite the adventure all through their travels, hunting the Avatar.

It originally became an obsession of Zuko to capture the Avatar and regain his honor in his father’s eyes and the nation’s eyes. A self-imposed task of a misguided teenager who felt the only way to win back his father’s love was to capture the Avatar. This was a feat that several others had tried and failed, like Fire Lord Azulon himself, Sozin.

Among the things they did on their travels, asides from Music night on the ship and occasional Pai Sho was Fire bending practice. Iroh became Zuko’s fire-bending teacher by default. He was a general named the Dragon of the West. Of course, it went without saying that he was more than qualified to be the boy’s teacher.

Iroh offered him advice on how to defeat Zhao when the two faced off in an Agni Kai. At the end of the fight, Iroh stopped Zhao from harming Zuko from behind. He declared that his nephew had more honor than the commander despite being in exile.

Iroh made his affection for Zuko known when they traveled toward the Northern Water Tribe. He showed great sadness when he thought Zuko had died. However, he also doted over him like a father would, asking him to be careful and stay hidden. Iroh later confessed his fatherly nature to Zuko by telling him he thought of Zuko.

Despite Zuko’s claims that he would be fine on his quest to capture the Avatar, Iroh still looked genuinely worried. However, Zuko later tells Iroh that he will be fine in a more relaxed voice compared to the impatient one he had earlier in the conversation.

When Zuko and Iroh traveled throughout the Earth Kingdom, they came to rely on each other even more as time went on. Even though Iroh and the young prince had to leave each other for a while, the love between them did not die or dwindle in the slightest. Finally, however, Zuko left him for a short time when he claimed that they no longer had anything to gain by traveling together. So much Iroh’s sadness as his nephew suggested this, he let him go.

As we would later see, when Toph gave Iroh some advice as well, she suggested that Iroh tell Zuko that he also needs him too. This was one of the scenes that suggested that Iroh also needed the relationship between them.

Iroh’s later encounter and talk with Toph helped us realize this. Iroh, during this meeting, according to Toph, Iroh would not stop talking about Zuko. Before he and Zuko reunited, Toph suggested that Iroh tell Zuko that he needed him. This caused Iroh to reflect for a few seconds.

Resuming Zuko’s Fire Bending Lessons

Iroh resumed Zuko’s Fire bending training and taught him how to redirect lightning but would not shoot at Zuko due to the risks. Zuko, infuriated by this and wanting to master this new skill as soon as possible, decided to go to the highest peak he could find and hope lightning would strike him. He screamed at the sky, yelling that it’d always thrown everything it had at him.

Iroh later decided that he and Zuko would be safe from Azula’s reach if they fled to Ba Sing Se as refugees. They contemplated the pros and cons and decided that being refugees or criminals in the Earth Kingdom wasn’t bad.

During their stay in Ba Sing Se, Iroh and Zuko worked together in a tea shop in the city’s Lower Ring, and they lived together in an apartment. Despite Zuko’s obvious disdain for his life as a refugee, Iroh remained patient and constantly encouraged Zuko to look at the positives. For example, he went so far as to encourage Zuko to find a nice “lady friend” and prompted Zuko to go on his date with Jin.

When Zuko learned that Aang was in the city looking for his bison, Iroh encouraged Zuko not to go looking for trouble. He explained that they finally had a life and something good there. The words of a tired older man who wanted to stop running and live in peace, but Zuko would not have it.

When Zuko tried to capture Appa, Iroh stopped him and insisted that he stop letting others control his destiny. He shouted at him, asking if this was a destiny he wanted or one that was chosen for him. Of course, this was him referring to his father. This encouraged Zuko to free Appa instead and abandon his identity as the Blue Spirit, whom he was dressed as during the capture.

The two returned to their apartment after Zuko had freed Appa, but almost immediately after arriving, Zuko collapsed to the floor with a terrible fever. Through his sickness, Iroh was by Zuko’s side day and night to comfort him and care for him, knowing that his spirit would be cleansed due to his better decisions. Zuko started taking on a more positive attitude after he regained his health, and the two were happy to work in their new tea shop in the Upper Ring.

Zuko and Iroh’s relationship was jeopardized during the events that eventually occurred. Azula captured Zuko and asked him to help her conquer the city, which would earn Zuko his father’s respect and possibly restore his honor.

Iroh vehemently insisted that Zuko must do what his heart told him and not give in to another’s demands. This failed when Zuko helped Azula defeat Aang and Katara and conquer Ba Sing Se. Iroh was later captured and was clearly ashamed of Zuko’s actions. Zuko regretted his actions almost immediately.

During his time in the Capital City Prison, Iroh initially refused to speak to Zuko, who called him a crazy old man. Then, in an attempt to calm Zuko’s inner turmoil, he revealed to Zuko his relationship with Avatar Roku and that he could help restore balance to the world.

He explained why good and evil were always in conflict inside of him. Zuko eventually realized this destiny and joined Aang in his fight against the Fire Nation but was too late to reconcile with Iroh, who had fled from prison during the solar eclipse. He originally went to the prison to help him escape but was too late.

Iroh and Zuko finally reunited before the arrival of Sozin’s Comet, with a repentant Zuko begging Iroh for forgiveness. Iroh quickly forgave his nephew, stating that he was never angry with him but was sad that Zuko had lost his way.

Zuko affirmed this but said Iroh helped him find it. Iroh later encouraged Zuko to take his place as Fire Lord, as he was the more suitable heir due to his reputation and what he had learned from his mistakes. He prompted Zuko to ask for help defeating Azula since she would not give up the throne easily. Zuko asked Katara, who accepted the request.

Iroh’s guidance to his nephew gave Zuko the strength needed to defeat Azula and to claim his rightful place as Fire Lord and the desire to restore peace and unity to the divided world.

Iroh and Zuko after the War

Zuko and Iroh were on much better terms when the Hundred Year War was over, and the two were happy to be serving their friend’s tea together in Ba Sing Se after the city’s liberation.

Zuko found himself teetering towards Iroh’s wisdom during the crises he faced during his tenure as Fire Lord. He, however, respected his uncle’s retirement wishes and left him undisturbed. However, Iroh was happy to see Zuko again and helped him recover after the events outside Yu Dao.

Iroh reminded Zuko that despite being Fire Lord, he was still a stubborn boy and needed to remember that he always would have a home with him. Iroh was displeased by Zuko and Aang’s poor reactions toward his innovative tea, considering himself a man ahead of his time.

Iroh continued to help his nephew, including serving as interim Fire Lord and expressed his wish that Zuko would find greater peace by finding his mother. This was when the team and Azula again embarked on another journey to find Zuko and Azula’s mother, Ursa.

Iroh continued to fill this role while Zuko stayed with his mother upon returning to the Fire Nation Capital, taking the Fire Lord’s place at Yu Dao to commemorate the transition of government. In addition, Iroh was again happy to help his nephew during the insurrection of the New Ozai Society, putting himself in personal danger as a decoy.

Iroh and Zuko remained close for the rest of their lives, with Iroh eventually passing from the material world. However, Zuko still showed his love and respect for Iroh, eagerly questioning Korra about speaking with Iroh in the Spirit World. After learning about his uncle’s fate, Zuko reunited with Iroh for the first time in decades. The relationship between them is admirable.

He is suspected of having killed Fire Lord Azulon when he pitched the idea of being Fire Lord instead of Iroh soon after Lu Ten was killed in Ba Sing Se. He suggested that Iroh had no heirs and he was fit for the position.

Azulon, enraged at his audacity, demanded that he feel the loss of a first-born son and said he had to kill his own son Zuko. Soon after, Fire Lord Azulon passed away in his sleep, as historians recorded. However, Ozai had become Fire Lord the next day, which fans thought was too convenient.

However, this article aims to settle this long debate on this battle. Who would win in a battle between Iroh and Ozai?

Closing in on the end of the hundred-year war when Avatar Aang was nowhere to be found, the team remained focused and were determined to end the war at all costs. However, they were confident that Aang would show up just when he should and at the right time. This faith or belief in him led them to proceed with other plans, expecting his arrival.

While going over the battle plans, Iroh was asked by Zuko to take on Ozai in the Avatar’s absence, but Iroh refused. He said that he was unsure if he could defeat him, and even if he could, history would see it as a brother killing another for power. So it created the question of who would win if these two crossed one another in battle—Iroh vs. Ozai.

Much like his father before him, Iroh was a renowned Fire Nation general during the Hundred Year War. Azulon had several exploits, and so did Iroh. Iroh enjoyed serving as a military commander and fully embraced his role as heir to the Fire Lord, later musing that his blood “boiled with desire” for power at the time.

His views at the time partially came from a desire to honor his father Azulon and grandfather Sozin. He felt like it was his duty to do this as both his father and grandfather had fully committed themselves to the war. In addition, Sozin was hell-bent on sharing the fire nation’s prosperity with the world.

This was according to the conversation he had with Avatar Roku at his wedding. Then, acting on a vision he had witnessed in his youth which told him he would capture the Earth Kingdom capital of Ba Sing Se, Iroh besieged the great city for six hundred days and successfully breached the Outer Wall.

This was a feat that had never been done before. However, before he could breach the Inner Wall, his son Lu Ten was killed on the front lines, and in his grief, Iroh lost most of his fighting spirit and abandoned the siege. Thus, the Siege of Ba Sing Se came to be seen as a terrible dishonor and failure for Iroh.

As Iroh returned home from the siege, his father, Fire Lord Azulon, died under mysterious circumstances. Although Iroh was the Crown Prince, his younger brother Ozai was named Fire Lord, apparently at the dying request of Azulon himself. Having lost his desire for power after the death of Lu Ten, Iroh did not fight for his right to the throne, and Ozai took power without incident. Regardless, Iroh initially felt that not becoming the Fire Lord was a “tremendous failure.”

Iroh vs Ozai: Details On Ozai

Ozai was the ruler of the Fire Nation during the final years of the Hundred Year War, reigning as Fire Lord from 95 to 100 AG. He is the younger brother of Iroh. He is the second son of Fire Lord Azulon and Ilah. He is also an uncle to Lu Ten and husband to Ursa, the father of Prince Zuko and Princess Azula.

He is also the paternal grandfather of Izumi, Zuko’s daughter, as we see in the later sequel to the Last Airbender series, the Legend of Korra. Ozai was a firebending master and was believed to be the most powerful firebender in the world before the end of the war. This prompts many questions like can he stand in battle against an equally controlled and powerful firebender, Iroh.

After Iroh’s only son, Lu Ten, died, Ozai usurped his brother’s birthright. This was in a scheme that resulted in his father’s death and Ursa’s banishment.

During Ozai’s rule, there was a mass buildup of industry and significant technological advancements. But, like his father and grandfather before him, Ozai was hell-bent on fully conquering and subduing the other nations. To this end, he planned to become the supreme ruler of the world.

To do this, he planned to use Sozin’s Comet to his advantage. He intended to burn down the Earth Kingdom, renounce the title of Fire Lord as he made Azula the New Fire Lord, and declared himself the Phoenix King, ruler of the world. However, before his plans could come to full realization, he was defeated by Avatar Aang.

Aang would not kill him as he upheld a principle not to do things as they had been done before. Instead, he used energy bending to remove his firebending abilities permanently.

After the end of the war and Zuko’s crowning, Ozai was sentenced to life in prison for several war crimes. However, he maintained a degree of influence on world politics through some of his loyal followers creating the “New Ozai Society” and his son, who occasionally sought advice from Ozai. As a result, the former Fire Lord was indirectly responsible for the failure of the Harmony Restoration Movement.

Although being unmatched fire benders in the fire nation, the two brothers, seconded by Jeong Jeong, who also showed great control, have been pitted together for a battle of who would win.

While Ozai displayed immense abilities in the series, Iroh also displayed equal and, in some cases, unparalleled levels of fire bending control. The first time we see any bending from Ozai is the second part of the day of Black Sun.

This is when Zuko confronts his father and pours out everything he has been carrying in all his sixteen years. When the eclipse that originally blocked Fire benders from bending was removed, Ozai displayed exceptional skill and bent lighting at Zuko.

He, however, did not factor that Zuko had mastered the ability to redirect lightning.
The next time we see Ozai is during the return of Sozin’s Comet which he also displayed outstanding control as he unleashed amazing Fire bending from atop his airship. We also see the extent of his abilities when he battled Avatar Aang.

Iroh, however, has us from the very start. We see his skills in fabled reports from people who call him “The Dragon of the West.”

Iroh exhibits control in high proportions. We see this as he trains Zuko from the start of the series. Iroh learned from the masters Ran and Shaw, the last dragon masters. While fire bending that the recent generation of Fire benders have become used to is fueled by rage, Iroh sought a different and better method. He was able to learn this from the dragons. This makes his fire bending a lot more powerful than Ozai’s.

While Ozai is fueled by rage and seemingly no self-control as much as he might seem calm and calculating, Iroh’s brand of fire bending comes from somewhere deeper. As Aang demonstrated with Zhao, rage would make you lose without the opponent throwing a single blow.

In a battle between Iroh vs. Ozai, based on the evidence and the information from the series, Iroh would most likely be the victor in this battle.

So to prevent Avatar from interfering with his plans for world domination, Sozin killed all the Air Nomads. Each Air Nomad had a flying bison because they were the only way to reach the Air Temples. And like every other Air Nomad, Appa also had a sky bison whom he called Appa.

A sky bison chooses his own companion when they are quite young. And like other fellow Air Nomads, Aang also offered an apple to a very young Appa as a sign of companionship. Appa accepted the apple offering, and the two became lifelong companions.

After both of them were rediscovered by Katara and Sokka, a hundred years later, they were shattered at discovering that their entire civilization has been wiped out after their disappearance. Aang even blamed himself for this genocide.

Because as the Avatar, it was his responsibility to maintain the balance of the world. And when he was unable to do so, not only did his people die but also the entire world became engulfed in a hundred-year-long war. After coming to terms with these facts, Aang started working on mastering the other elements to defeat the Firelord Max Ozai to end this war.

Conclusion

Appa was not just a companion to Avatar Aang but was like his family. In the episodes when The Sand benders kidnaped appa, Aang became pessimistic about the world, indicating that Appa’s mere presence has a very positive impact on Aang as they are the sole survivors of a once-great civilization.

Aang vs Korra: Who Wins The Battle of Avatars

Aang vs Korra is an often debated topic. For some reason, the fanbase always loves to put these two Avatars together to find out similarities, differences in power levels, and such.

Both Avatar Aang in The Last Airbender and Avatar Korra in the Legend of Korra both displayed mastery of the elements in such unbelievable ways and demonstrated unseen levels of power in bending. If these two came in a head-to-head battle, who is the more powerful Avatar?

On both of these television series, it was drawn that “bending” majorly speaks of the ability to telekinetically control and master the element of one’s nation of birth. These nations are four in number which include Water, Earth, Fire, or Air.

In each of these nations, they are taught how to bend one of these elements as a discipline of martial arts. The Avatar is unique by being the only individual with the capability to command every element, which both Aang and Korra learn to do on their respective shows.

The Aang vs Korra Debate

The debate of who the stronger Avatar never stops. There is an argument that usually comes up when this topic comes into discussion. This is that Korra is the stronger Avatar between the two of them. Some attribute it to her being more naturally physical than Aang.

This argument is backed up by the fact that following Aang’s training to become skilled in every element but his native one of air, Korra was already well ahead of Aang in this side of Avatar training. In her very first scene on The Legend of Korra, the young Avatar was in complete control of three out of four of the elements while she was still a small child, with air being the only element Korra could not yet bend. This is because this is her natural opposite.

Just like any Avatar working with their direct opposite, Airbending proved to be a real challenge for Korra. When she was taken under the apprenticeship of Aang’s son, Tenzin, she experienced how almost impossible it was to master the element.

She was naturally hot-blooded which is the direct opposite of her predecessor, Avatar Aang. Airbending required a calm mind and a strong affinity for the spiritual arts. This is why Airbending monks spend years trying to detach themselves from the world and attain spiritual enlightenment. Despite her accomplishment, this is something she never truly excelled at compared to Avatar Aang.

Although Korra would come to master Airbending during her training with Tenzin. She also showed that she was much more prone to frustration and letting her temper get the best of her than Aang was.

At the same time, Aang grew up as a Southern Air Temple monk, and while not incapable of losing his own temper, he had the ability to keep his emotions in check that Korra lacked.

However, the deciding factor for this aspect lies in Aang and Korra’s proficiency with the spiritual component of being the Avatar. In this part, what Korra excelled at and why makes her the lesser of the two in this section of spirituality. Aang was unquestionably the better of the two. While she relies on brute force and strength, she failed in aspects where Avatar Aang excelled. Aang vs Korra debate becomes tied at one and one.

Regardless of what we say, becoming skilled with every element is an essential step when aiming to become a fully realized Avatar.

The spiritual core of being the Avatar is where one’s power is truly based. Strengthening one’s spiritual core is what makes them truly powerful. This can also be fine-tuned by bending mastery amongst other things. With the Avatar, channeling the Spirit of Light, Raava, along with his or her past lives, Aang was gifted with a far greater understanding of this than Korra ever was.

This leads back to being spiritually enlightened as an Avatar which Korra never was. He recognized that this was the foundation of his being an Avatar than Korra did.

As earlier stated, this also goes back to Aang’s upbringing in the Southern Air Temple, which gave him an ideal basis to learn the ropes of being the Avatar. While “Bitter work” as Roku phrases it in terms of training is forty percent of the journey, the rest of the sixty percent strongly relies on an Avatar’s mastery of the spirit world.

What strongly disqualifies her for this category is that Korra was more likely than Aang to fall victim to being blinded by anger in difficult circumstances. She made a lot of mistakes this way due to her blind assumptions and anger. This would prove to be a challenge for her that went very close with her inability of mastering Airbending easily at first. This mastery and the strong affinity is the Avatar’s spiritual essence.

Also, due to the immense control Avatar Aang had on his spiritual side, he was much more adept. Aang was in his Avatar’s spirit’s strongest as we could see in his final battle with Fire Lord Ozai. He had undergone all the Chakra opening processes and could easily go in and out of the state, compared to Korra who entered the state a lot of the time by accident or when she was in grave danger.

Aang vs Korra: Who Gets The Upperhand?

Despite being in the Avatar State, driven by his countless past lives and fully preparing to slay Ozai, Aang nevertheless had the self-control to stop himself from doing so. This showed a level of mastery that was something to be admired.

It is no doubt that both Aang and Korra are very skilled as both Avatars and fighters. When we are discussing Avatar Korra, her stronger and better quality is having far more natural talent as a warrior than Aang.

However, while Aang took his time throughout Avatar: The Last Airbender to attain mastery with each element, he also had a better understanding of the spiritual nature of the Avatar as being its foundation than Korra did in The Legend of Korra. Seeing as the Avatar is solely fueled by mastery of their spiritual self, this fact alone makes Aang the more powerful one of the two Avatars.

Girl Avatar: 6 of The Strongest Female Avatar Characters

Girl Avatars are not entirely uncommon. The Avatar world is filled with so many characters. Several reincarnations have come to play, of which girls happen to be one of these. Since we don’t have much information on girl Avatars save for three or four, as seen in the series, we would be discussing girl Avatars and girl characters in the Avatar world. This includes both the Last Airbender series and The Legend of Korra series as well.

Some girl Avatars and girl characters that have made the series and, in fact, the franchise grow even more will be listed below. Here are the girl Avatar characters in no particular order.

Avatar Korra (The Most Popular Girl Avatar)

Avatar Korra is one of the prominent characters in the Avatar world. She is one of the girl Avatars that gives feminine Avatars a good name.

What especially makes Korra so cool is not her stubbornness. It’s her refusal to give up. She constantly stayed strong despite all the adversaries that came her way. Even when she was in a wheelchair, she would not stop thinking about getting stronger and overcoming the obstacles. One would expect maybe a much older Avatar to be the second on this list for cool Avatar.

Korra not only gained mastery of the other three elements quite early, but she also mastered it faster than most Avatar, second to Avatar Aang, who, despite spending time in the iceberg, mastered between age twelve and thirteen. Thus, Korra was well on her way to being a fully realized Avatar at sixteen.

Another thing that makes her cool is she is also the second Avatar after Wan to have done several impossible things. We see in the Legend of Korra series how she undoes some of the mistakes Wan made. She is the first Avatar to master metal bending and the second Avatar to fight Vaatu in an even more powerful form. Korra is one of the strongest characters in the whole series.

Avatar Yangchen (The Wisest Girl Avatar)

Avatar Yangchen is also another Avatar we may not be too familiar with. Little of her was seen in the series. She, however, has more roles in the games and comics. In the scene where we see her, she commands a gust of wind that sweeps over a yawning field of grass. The power is extraordinary in itself as she displays extensive mastery of the art.

In the comics, she goes one further and enters combat with the colossal spirit, General Old Iron.

In this battle, we see her ability to surround herself in the same sphere of elements. This is a technique that Avatar Aang later uses against Fire Lord Ozai, and her advice to Aang to end Ozai’s life makes it clear that she was a deadly and formidable force.

Avatar Yangchen, or ‘The Great Yangchen’ as she would later come to be known, was widely revered as not only the most powerful avatar but also the most compassionate.

Avatar Yangchen was, in fact, so very loved by the people of every nation that she became a sort of a deity.

Citizens of the Earth Kingdom would pray to her for protection and luck.

Her mastery of airbending was said to be so developed that she could even change the weather. She is one of the girl Avatar characters we have on this list, and she is an extraordinary one at that too.

Princess Yue (The Most Sacrificial Girl Avatar)

Another amazing character that must be mentioned is Princess Yue. Yue was a princess, born to the Northern water tribe’s chief. She is the daughter of Chief Arnook, and she is also one of his advisors. After the death of the moon spirit Tui, she was burdened by the responsibility to give back the life she had been given.

During the Siege of the Northern water tribe, the moon spirit was killed by Zhao, a fire nation soldier and Admiral. Yue sacrificed and replaced the moon spirit, sharing the position.

Yue was born to the water tribe chief as a sick child. She had an unknown illness which caused her almost to be born still and asleep. As an Infant, she was quiet and didn’t cry but remained asleep. This caused her parents to worry, and they feared that she would die. However, her condition, growing critical, the tribe’s healers had tried their best.

Yagoda, one of the best healers in the whole nation, also put in unlimited effort but to no avail. They all concluded that princess Yue was going to die. Arnook, desperate to save his daughter’s life, begged the moon spirit to save her. That night, under the full moon, he brought her to the spirit oasis. This was the center of all spiritual energy in the nation and was also the same oasis that Avatar Wan came across after being banished, weary and hungry.

He placed her in the pond, and her once black hair turned white. The moon gifted her with part of its life force. Thus, she survived, and her parents named her Yue, meaning for the moon.

Toph Beifong (The Toughest Girl Avatar)

Toph Beifong, a blind earth bender, and later metal bender, is the only daughter of the Beifong family. They are known as one of the richest, if not the richest family in the whole world.

Several stories have gone on about what happens to our favorite characters after we last see them on the animation series. In addition, there are comic book issues that address some of these concerns but not directly concerning who Toph married.

As far as we know, Toph married no one. Her two children Lin and Suyin, were born out of wedlock. We do know that Lin’s father is a man named Kanto.

We recall Toph saying in the Legend of Korra series that it didn’t work out between them.

This issue caused animosity between Toph and Lin.

Toph gave birth to Lin twenty years after the conclusion of the hundred-year war. Her daughter inherited her Earth bending abilities. She also trained her to master metal bending and even seismic sense. This is a skill that Toph perfected due to her lack of sight.

Although, Toph feels like Lin never really fully mastered all the key elements to these skills. Toph and Lin share similar personalities, and Korra even referred to Toph as an older and crankier version of Lin.

Both can be blunt and stubborn per the occasion, and Toph proudly referred to herself as the original Beifong. The family, due to his Toph must have handled them growing up, eventually breaks apart.  After twenty years of no contact, Toph and Lin found common ground and reconciled.

Katara (The Most Compassionate Girl Avatar)

Katara is a water tribe girl that grows up to be the strong and independent woman we see her be. She is an example of a caregiving woman who would give anything to the people she calls family. Aside from being a role model when it comes to having a motherly instinct, she can be strong and clever but sweet and caring at the same time.

Although she’s very kind, she would never strike you as a regular damsel in distress. She can protect herself and holds her own as a fighter. Eventually, others need saving from her and not the other way around. She is also regarded as an independent woman on her own journey.

Her backstory informs so much about her character. Her way of taking care of everyone around her comes from her motherly instincts, instincts that quickly came to force after the passing of her own mother. She is a very amazing character in the series. Her role cannot have been replaced.

Avatar Kyoshi (The Largest Girl Avatar)

Avatar Kyoshi is one of the strongest Avatars and a very controversial one per her methods. However, she was the Avatar that preceded Roku, who eventually preceded Aang. Kyoshi Warriors get a lot of praise for being an awesome female fighting force, but these soldiers owe their legacy to one person: Avatar Kyoshi.

Kyoshi has recently made a bit of a comeback with the release of a book series exploring her early life, but she is seldom seen in the show. However, the story of how she defeated Chin the Conqueror created Kyoshi Island is more than enough reason to include her on this list, as she mixed multiple Bending styles in a single moment to literally reshape the world by creating a new island and overthrowing a major military leader.

Adult Toph: Avatar The Last Airbender

It’s no surprise that our favorite characters grew. This article would be discussing the adult Toph and how she lived her life. It’s hard to fathom, but eventually, we come to terms with the fact that our favorite characters became old. Adult Toph lived a full life after the defeat of Fire Lord Ozai. We see her in the Legend of Korra series, alive and back aching. She also feels shocked about her back killing her. She still doesn’t understand how she grew so old.

As far as we know, Toph never got married to anyone exactly. Instead, she had her two children Lin and Suyin, for two different men. That is, they were born out of wedlock. In The Legend of Korra, we find out that Lin’s father, the first daughter, is a man named Kanto.

We recall Toph saying in the Legend of Korra series that it didn’t work out between them.

This was mostly the issue that caused the rift between Toph and Lin. Unfortunately, this eventually became a full-fledged fallout.

Adult Toph Creating A Metal Bending Academy & Being Chief of Police

Adult Toph had quite the adventure in her prime. She was not always as old and frail as we see her in The Legend of Korra. After the defeat of Ozai, the Team went on to accomplish great things that would pave the way for a brighter future. Aang and the rest of the team created a city where all benders could be united as one and live in harmony.

They named it Republic city. Toph was the first chief of police in Republic city. After she got the hang of metal bending, she went on to create an Academy. Although there is no live animation series depicting this event, an elaborate and extensive comic book series tells of Toph and her metal bending adventures. She created an Academy to train young earth benders who could bend metal as well as she did.

This would make way for the future as the Republic city police have many benders of which primarily bend metal. She became the chief of police in Republic city shortly after it was created. She was the best candidate to maintain order as chaos always arises everywhere. The peace they had fought to win became so precious to them, and they sought to keep it at all costs.

A flashback of Toph and Aang chasing after a criminal named Yakone hinted at the adventures they had. But, unfortunately, Yakone was a blood bender, and as Aang points out to Toph, he wasn’t an ordinary criminal.

Toph gets out of the open-roof police squad car and sees Aang. She fires at him, saying she would handle this. When Aang tells her his help will be required, she softly replies by giving him the go-ahead to come with her, calling him twinkle toes. He gets mildly irritated and tells her he’s forty years old now. He asks if she can stop with the nicknames of which she declines.

Adult Toph Having Her First Child Lin

The Toph gave birth to Lin twenty years after the conclusion of the hundred-year war. Her daughter inherited her Earth bending abilities. She also trained her to master metal bending and even seismic sense. This is a skill that Toph perfected due to her lack of sight.

  • Although, Toph feels like Lin never really fully mastered all the key elements to these skills.
  • Toph and Lin share similar personalities and Korra even referred to Toph as an older and crankier version of Lin.
  • The both of them can be blunt and stubborn per the occasion and Toph proudly referred to herself as the original Beifong.
  • The family, due to how Toph must have handled them growing up, eventually breaking apart.
  • After twenty years of no contact, Toph and Lin found a common ground and reconciled.

Despite Toph’s good intentions as a single mother, she refused to discuss Lin’s father with her, which weighed heavily on her daughter. She felt that this was a way to protect her daughter from the harm she didn’t need to face. This did the exact opposite of what she intended, instead of what Toph aimed at, protecting her child. She sucked badly at parenting, probably due to her own parents and their horrible parenting.

Despite this, Lin continued to have respect for her mother as the Chief of Police. She did, however, maintain her anger at Suyin being the cause of Toph’s premature retirement. As a result, their relationship became strained, and by 154 AG, they had ceased communicating with each other.

When they reunited by chance in 174 AG to save a captured Suyin and her family, Toph acted casually with her daughter. Unfortunately, this inadvertently did a good number on her nerves. Lin finally unloaded on Toph after Bolin received an answer to the question of who her father was.

She blamed Toph for never knowing or caring why she angered her so much. As Lin stated she wanted nothing more to do with her after saving their family, Toph solemnly accepted the words, stating that she would agree to it if that were what Lin desired. Bad parenting, right?

However, after they had successfully saved everyone, Lin apologized for her harsh words. Then, something improbable to happen was Toph admitting that she had not been the best mother. She maintained that she was nonetheless proud of how she had ended up with great daughters in the respite of this.

She also said that it was enough for her to know that Lin did not hate her; Lin accepted her words and shared a small hug.

Their relationship became a lot better after this event.

Adult Toph Having The Second Child Suyin

In 126 AG, Toph had her second daughter, Suyin, with another man, as she would later let us know. Her first relationship did not work out with Kanto. We, however, do not know the identity of Suyin’s father.

Suyin also inherited earth bending and mastery of the sub-skill of metal bending, although Toph felt that Suyin never quite mastered all the key elements of these skills. However, this should be expected from a bending master. Finding someone that cuts it must be next to impossible for her.

Due to how she grew up, Toph must have subconsciously decided to do the exact opposite of her parents. She gave Suyin and her sister Lin all the freedom that she did not have while growing up. It was clear that this was a bad movie, and it became even clearer when Suyin got arrested by Lin for being the wheelman for the Terra Triad. Lin apprehending Suyin and brought her to the station to her mother.

Toph tore up the report and sent her second daughter to live with her grandparents. She must have rethought the decision to let her have unlimited freedom at that point. Her best decision was to send her to where she would not have the freedom she had gotten so used to.

A year later, Toph retired, while Suyin went on to build the city of Zaofu. They both reconciled from the incident, and Toph would often visit before she went off searching for enlightenment. Unfortunately, Lin was not aware of this and blamed Suyin for her recklessness, causing Toph to retire earlier than she needed to. An angry Lin held on to this for about two decades, ostracizing herself from two of her family members.

While she resided in the Foggy Swamp, a spiritual center for energy and life, Toph kept an eye on Zaofu. It was here that she learned that Kuvira took Suyin and her family prisoner in 174 AG. Toph traveled toward the metal city to rescue them.

Upon being reunited with her youngest daughter, Toph let herself be hugged and readily returned the embrace. After successfully escaping the prison, Toph noted how proud she was to have such great daughters as Suyin and Lin.

Did Adult Toph Get Married?

Toph did not marry anyone, but she did turn out with amazing daughters who befitted wearing the Beifong name.

While Toph is not often openly kind, she showed a great deal of warmness and cared only toward her only granddaughter, Opal. During her visits to Zaofu, Toph would often tell her tales from her past.

In 174 AG, when Toph went to rescue her family, Opal rushed to hug her, an action Toph did not resist, although she cut it short and moved to hold Opal’s hands instead. This is something that Toph would not do to anyone else. Appraising her granddaughter, she fondly noted how much she had grown, though questioned her judgment when learning that Juicy was her flying bison and Bolin her boyfriend.

Toph is one of the characters who had children with bending skills passed on to the next generation.

The Adult Toph still managed to maintain some of the grit and irritation she usually carries. Her lack of enthusiasm. When Korra asks her to recall the story of how the Fire Lord was taken down, her reply was, “It was hot.” “And oh, I think a giant turtle showed up,” she added, as though it helped.

The Adult Toph still managed to contribute in whatever little way she could during the sequel to The Last Airbender series.

Aang and Appa: Things You Didn’t Know About The Bison

Pets are valuable companions; in the sense that they provide companionship that is often impossible to rival. They stick around like glue – and they seem to know just what to do to help make things all better. For Aang and Appa, this relationship was next to brotherhood. Appa went everywhere that Aang went, and they were almost inseparable.

Even when fate had them far from each other, they were both in such a terrible state that they could not function without one another. That’s a true relationship right there.

Aang is obviously the more popular member of this dynamic duo, but that doesn’t diminish Appa’s importance. However, not many people know much about the sky bison – which is understandable, as most people would focus on Aang’s story more than Appa.

More to Appa than meets the eye, more than him being the last remaining Sky Bison in the world; or one of the cuddliest characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender. He is the literal definition of a gentle giant, but don’t be fooled, as he can be quite aggressive and quick to anger if he perceives the slightest of threats aimed at his loved ones.

Everything about Appa is expectedly adorable, but many facts about him are not as known as they should be. So let’s take them one by one.

Aang and Appa: The Sky Bison Chose Aang, Not The Other Way Around

When you set out to get a pet, you are the one making the active choice to take one particular animal home. That is how it’s always seemed to be. However, with Aang and Appa, the story all but turns on its head.

Aang becomes an Airbending Master at the tender age of 12, after which he gets his tattoos. This sets a new world record, one that his granddaughter only breaks, Jinora, many years later. Airbending tradition states that the tattoo ceremony includes the bender bonding with a spirit animal. In this case, it is specifically one of the many Sky Bison that populate the regions around the Air Temples.

When Aang sets out to pick his companion, he meets several different calves to choose from. He is, however, aware that he must consider the Sky Bison’s preferences and respect that decision, as opposed to picking the Sky Bison he wanted the most. Once Appa accepts the gift of fruit, Aang and Appa create their bond, and their friendship is set for the rest of their lives, even into the afterlife.

Appa Was Meant To Be A Dog Instead

Aang and Appa would have had a much different dynamic had the showrunners continued with the animal designs they had for Appa in the beginning. Interestingly, Appa wasn’t always a big fluffy Sky Bison at the start of the show’s production. Instead, he was a canine-inspired creature, definitely not as big as Appa; but still big enough to carry Aang around.

It’s interesting to imagine just how the series would have gone had the creators decided to stick to the initial design. Surely, it would have been harder for Team Avatar to travel around the world with the ease that Appa had. It would have also impacted the relationship between Aang and Appa greatly.

However, it all worked out well; the decision to alter Appa into the lovable big ball of fur we know now, and we did eventually get to see the design of the first animal companion. The design was converted into Avatar Korra’s polar bear dog, Naga.

Aang and Appa: The Sky Bison Underwent A Lot Of Stylistic Changes

The animals in the world of the Last Airbender were conceived as combinations between two original animals. These hybrids would eventually become the norm in the series and spinoffs and tie-in comics. This was no different for the animal half in the relationship between Aang and Appa.

Appa, and the rest of his species, was originally conceived as a combination of a bison and a manatee or a sea cow. This is in line with the pattern of strange hybrids that appear in the show. Examples include pairings that produced Rooster Pigs, Ostrich Horses, Hippo Cows, and even Lion turtles.

Interestingly, the earlier designs for Appa show that he was more sea cow than bison, which was eventually changed to what we have in the series. Appa was also supposed to have helical horns. But it would have been difficult to create that, considering the animation style used in the show.

The creators decided to opt for simpler horns instead. We can say their decisions definitely paid off, as fans all over the world fell in love with Appa’s design. Plus, Aang and Appa might have had a weird dynamic with the previous depictions – so it’s a good idea they didn’t go with all that.

Appa Weighs About 10 Tons

Obviously, Appa is a pretty big guy, but what exactly is his weight in numbers?

Team Avatar has given us the answer to this on several occasions. It’s been stated that Appa being around was a gift from heaven, even when his weight just served about the same purpose as a battering ram.  He’s one ginormous animal companion, with his size coming in at least 10 feet in height at the shoulder, which is an unconfirmed number but can be deduced from his stance with humans beside him.

In their lengthy time as Aang and Appa, along with observations from the rest of the team, particularly Sokka, the sky bison’s weight has been put at around 20,000 pounds – at least 10 tons. Of course, they didn’t have the means to measure Appa but judging from the bison’s size; you could argue that they are not far off with their estimation.

His size has come in handy, helping them fight or in extremely tight conditions with dangerous weather.

Aang and Appa Don’t Always Agree

Even the best of friends aren’t always on the same page, so considering Aang and Appa are more or less family, that’s not a surprising fact at all. It is not hard to believe. However, the specifics where this applies can be a little comedic.

As much as Appa loves Aang, he doesn’t always answer his master’s calls. Instead, Appa answers a very special sky bison whistle, much like a dog whistle, which Aang uses whenever he needs him. But the whole whistle situation is somewhat humorous.

When Aang purchases a bison whistle on one of their stopovers, the Gaang mocks him for wasting their money. Katara demands that she be allowed to control their finances from that point on.

The whistle looks like a sham largely because when Aang blows it for the first time, Appa doesn’t come as he is supposed to. As it appears, the whistle either does not work, or Appa hears it and refuses to answer because he is sleeping. If anything is clear, it’s the fact that Appa likes his sleep. A LOT. We won’t put it past him if he decides not to answer. Sleep is important, after all.

Appa Understands Human Speech And Gestures

Appa expresses himself in grunts and bellows, and it looks like Aang is the only person who has any idea what is being communicated. Nonetheless, the Avatar has a penchant for making up random stories, so he might simply be playing a prank on his friends.

On the other hand, it’s definitive that Appa can understand what the others are saying, seeing as he accurately responds to Aang’s instructions— like when he asks him to pretend to be tired so that he could stay on Kyoshi Island long enough to ride the Elephant Koi. More importantly, Appa and Momo have developed a language system that is decipherable only amongst themselves.

Aang and Appa Differ In Their Meal Choices

For the most part, Appa behaves exactly like one of the cow family. He prefers to eat plants, hay, fruits, leaves, grass. In fact, a large fraction of his diet is vegetarian, but this still does not make him herbivorous, regardless of his bovine dentition or the arrangement of teeth in the mouth.

When necessary, for instance, during the episode “Appa’s Lost Days,” he tries to eat an egg because he had been starving for quite some time.  This proves that he’s obviously an omnivore if he can take in animal meat in any form.

Appa Is Smarter Than Most Humans

Appa is extremely mild-mannered (except when he perceives a threat to Aang or the others), which means that it is surprisingly easy to befriend the gentle creature. One example of this is his instant love for Sokka, which the latter would appreciate more if he didn’t get drenched in Sky Bison saliva so often.

In addition, Appa possesses at least some smarts, which is shown by how quickly and accurately he responds to specific instructions. As a result, a lot of the humans in the show could probably learn something from him.

Aang and Appa Die Together

As sad as it sounds, the connection between an Airbender and their Sky Bison is permanent, implying that it can only be broken through death. So when Aang dies, around 53 years after the end of the Hundred Year War, it is believed that Appa goes with him.

Another reason for this outcome is that both of them had spent a century in icy hibernation, which may have had a drastic impact on their respective lifespans. On a different note: What happened to Momo?

He Is Not The Last Sky Bison In Existence

The Last Airbender is paired with the only remaining member of the Sky Bison, or so it seems in the beginning. Aang suspects that the gentle animals were eradicated along with the rest of the Air Nomads during the Fire Nation raids, a belief that holds for quite some time.

In The Legend of Korra, there are considerably more Sky Bison flying around, and none of them are descended from Appa. Apparently, Aang “discovers” that many of them had survived the Hundred Year War in hiding. They only emerged when the world became more peaceful.
