The Legend of Korra Season 3 Episode 13 Synopsis

Avatar: The Last Airbender was a fantastic show, but it lacked true villains except Azula and Ozai. We only got to see Aang and Ozai in a one-on-one battle. And he never battled Azula in a proper match. But The Legend of Korra was full of villains that could easily give the Avatar a run for her money. And The Legend of Korra Season 3 Episode 13 is one of those episodes where Korra faces a mighty foe. Season 3 of The Legend of Korra featured the Red Lotus as the primary antagonists, with episode 13 featuring the most awaited fight of the season.

This fight featured Avatar Korra taking on Zaheer. And Zaheer nearly had the upper hand throughout the war and was even successful in his mission to poison Korra. And in this article, we will look at how these events unfolded and how Korra survived this deadly attack on her life.

Background

Red Lotus is the opposite of the order of the White Lotus. Where White Lotus strived to restore balance to the world. Red Lotus existed for the opposite. It is a group of anarchists who only wanted to spread anarchy across the globe. What better way to spread anarchy than to kill the Avatar. Throughout the season, we see the development of the primary antagonist Zaheer. Zaheer formed the Red Lotus because he considered the decision of Avatar Wan to separate Vaatu and Raava. And believed that this action disrupted the balance of the world.

Appearance in Season 3

In the third season of The Legend Of Korra, many people developed the ability to Airbend after the harmonic convergence. And Zaheer was one of them. He was a Master in Martial Arts and was fascinated with Airbending and used to study Guru Laghima even when he was not even a member of The Red Lotus. So when he developed the ability to Airbend, he was able to master this ability with very little training. After which, he escaped from his prison cell as it was only designed to imprison a non-bender.

After breaking out of his prison cell, he also freed the other captured members of the Red Lotus. And convinced them that his Airbending ability is a gift so that he can continue the mission of the Red Lotus.

Chasing After The Avatar

Zaheer shaved his hair and went to Air Temple Island to ask for help as he is a young Airbender in need of guidance. And he earned praise from Meelo as he passed through the Air Gates like a leaf. He started inquiring about Korra and discovered that she had split from Tenzin, which he termed unfortunate. At that night, he went into Tenzin’s study and picked a locket with the poem of Guru Laghima. After which, Kya confronted him, and he barely escaped from the island with the help of other Red Lotus members.

After this, the whole season develops into how Zaheer and other members of Red Lotus try and catch Korra. They also kill the Earth Queen to spread anarchy throughout the Earth Kingdon. They take several measures to capture her. These measures include charging Tenzin’s family to blackmailing Korra. Zaheer is also shown to develop the ability to fly using his Airbending and became only the second person after Guru Laghima. Tenzin even expressed that he thought that this was not possible.

Your Ultimate Guide To Tenzin From The Legend of Korra

Tenzin is the youngest son of Avatar Aang and is the oldest surviving Airbender in the Avatar Universe. He lives on Air Temple Island with his family. He has four children, namely Jinora, Ikki, Meelo, and Rohan. With the former three all being highly-skilled Airbenders. Tenzin is one of the lead protagonists in The Legend of Korra. Tenzin also serves as the Airbending master for Avatar Korra and plays a vital role in assisting the Avatar throughout the series.

He is also very focused on re-establishing the Nomadic lifestyle of Airbenders. But the number of Air Nomads was only restricted to Tenzin and his three children. So he was never really able to adopt this lifestyle. But after the Harmonic Convergence, people started to develop Airbending abilities, and Tenzin became the Master of all these new Airbenders and guided them so that they could learn the ways of Air Nomads. In this article, we will focus on how Tenzin helped guide Korra and assist her in defeating her enemies.

History

Tenzin became an essential part of the Republic City because he was the only surviving Airbender after his father. And it remained this way until his children were born and became Airbenders themselves. Tenzin represented the Air Nomads on the Republic City Council. And was also tasked with various peace-keeping missions throughout the city. For example, when Korra was just a child, Zaheer and the Red Lotus planned to kidnap the young Avatar in hopes of freeing Vaatu. And their plan was also foiled when Tenzin, Lin, and Zuko stopped them and imprisoned the Red Lotus members.

As Tenzin was the only Air Nomad born in 100 years, he was extensively taught the traditions and customs of the Air Nomads by his father. And eventually earned the traditional Air Nomad arrow tattoos, symbolizing his status as an Airbending master. During his youth, he and Lin Beifong were a couple, but their relationship was eventually called off because of Tenzin’s wish to have children. At the same time, Lin wanted to focus on her career. Tenzin eventually married Pema, an Air acolyte, and started his family.

We see Tenzin in the first episode of The Legend of Korra for the first time. He arrives at the Southern Water Tribe on his flying bison along with his family. Meelo is sucking on his head when they arrive at the Southern Water Tribe. He arrived at the South Pole to train Korra in her Airbending. But when he delayed Korra’s training and returned to Republic City, Korra also ran away and came to teach with him at the Air Temple Island. However, Tenzin was initially hesitant but later agreed to train Korra at Temple Island.

Encounter With The Equalists

When Korra came to Republic City and witnessed, Amon is taking Mako’s bending away. She challenged him to an open duel. Tenzin tried his best to stop her but to no avail. He also consoled her when she started crying in fear of Amon’s capabilities. Amon threatened to respond to Korra’s challenge at the Pro-Bending Tournament. After which, Tenzin advocated for the tournament to stop and the Pro-Bending Arena to close down, but he was outvoted.

All his doubts came to realization when Amon attacked the Arena and wreaked havoc. Later he was kidnapped with his children by Amon. Who wished to take their bending away in front of the public. However, Korra and Team Avatar intervened, and Tenzin and his family were rescued. And together, they were successful in exposing themselves as a Waterbender ultimately defeating the Equalists movement.

Later Adventures

When Jinora’s body was trapped inside the Spirit World by Unalaq, Tenzin, Kya and Bumi went to her rescue. They met Uncle Iroh, who told them that Jinora was trapped inside the Fog of Lost Souls. They all went there but became lost due to the strong poison around them. While breaking down under this immense pressure, a spirit of Avatar Aang came to him and told him to follow his path. This gave Tenzin clarity, and he was able to rescue Kya, Bumi, and Jinora from the Fog.

Tenzin also brought Korra to the Tree of Time, telling them that it was not Raava but the accomplishments of the Avatar that defined her. And inspired her to fight and defeat Unalaq.

He also became the Master of the newfound Airbender and started training them. Meanwhile, I helped Korra throughout. When the Red Lotus attacked and captured Tenzin and his family, Korra surrendered to save Tenzin and his family. Season 3 of The Legend of Korra focuses on how the young Avatar takes down The Red Lotus with the help of Tenzin and others. Personality

Tenzin has a very calm but strict demeanor compared to the carefree Aang. He does have a sense of humor at times. Tenzin also occasionally shows bits of craziness and works hard to suppress this. He always tries to be a calm person, an attempt that is sometimes nullified by his menacing children or even his siblings. Even Katara describes him as a severe child from the start. He has always been burdened with carrying the fate of the Air Nation which had made him very serious about things in life.

Airbending Capabilities

Tenzin is considered the most powerful Airbender after his father Aang. This is because he was extensively trained in all the air-bending techniques by Avatar Aang himself. It was not until Zaheer mastered Guru Laghima’s flying technique that he actually surprised. Even Zaheer, with so much power could never take on Tenzin alone. And all of the elemental masters of the Red Lotus attacked Tenzin at once that he was overpowered. And even in such conditions, he still did not give up showing his commitment to doing the right thing.

Gameplay

This game is a third-person action game with the players only being able to control the game’s lead, Korra only. The game does not support multiple characters play. As the game starts with Korra losing all of her bending abilities so she acquires Waterbending first, Earthbending second which is followed by Firebending. Each element has its own set of attacks that the player can use.

Another very interesting feature in this game is the counterattacking option which the player can use just before being hit by an enemy’s attack. It even causes more damage and is also the only way to defeat the bosses. The game also includes a new level that can be unlocked after completing the original. This new level includes a runner with Naga as well as Pro-bending matches. Fire Ferrets are also unlocked after finishing the game and consist of Mako, Bolin, and Korra.

Reception

The initial reception for the development versions of the game was positive. Early Life

In The Legend of Korra, we see that Mako had quite a tragic childhood as he had to witness the death of his parents while he was very young. And was left alone with his younger brother Bolin. At such a young age, he had the responsibility of taking care of himself and his brother. And to do so, he resorted to any means necessary. Both the brothers pulled small-time scams and used to hustle money and some food through these scams. But still spent days even without eating even a loaf of bread.

While running these scams, they came in contact with the Triple Threat Triad, and while visiting the Triad’s headquarters, they saw a Triad leader Shady Sin bribing a Pro-bending player named Toza. Bolin was visibly upset at the idea of Toza fixing a Pro-bending match and convinced him not to throw the game away. But when Toza won instead of losing, Bolin accidentally revealed his involvement in Toza’s win. This made Shady Sin enraged, and he went after both Mako and Bolin. And attacked them after cornering them. Toza was witnessing this encounter and was very impressed with the brothers’ resistance against Sin. He eventually broke up the fight.

To offered both of them to train at his gym and become Pro-benders. Mako was initially hesitant at the idea but agreed after Toza said they should abandon their criminal lives. And Mako being the elder one, should look after both of them and do what is right. They eventually became Pro-bending players, and Mako became the captain of a team called Fire Ferrets.

Meeting With Korra

Korra was already a fan of Pro-bending when she escaped from The Southern Water Tribe to come to Republic City. So when she was settling in The Air Temple Island, she went to the arena to overcome her boredom. She became a part of the Fire Ferrets after their member Hasook abandoned the team. Korra ultimately helped them win the match and qualify for the Pro-bending tournament, and became friends with the brothers. Sometime later Bolin was kidnapped by Equalists, and Korra and Mako set out to find him. It was on this mission that Korra witnessed Amon stripping a bender of his bending ability for the first time when he took Mako’s bending away.

Korra was later able to restore Mako’s bending. The team needed finances to support their team througout the Pro-bending tournament. And it was Asami that helped the get sponsored by Future Industries. After Asami’s father was arrested for aiding the Equalists, Asami also came to live at the Air Temple Island. Together they defeated Amon by exposing him as a waterbender. However, after his followers saw his bending ability they stopped supporting him and he ultimately was escaped and killed in an explosion.

Later Adventures

After the Equalists movement was defeated in The Legend of Korra, Mako joined the Republic City Polic Department as a beat cop. But because of his abilities, he immediately rose through the ranks as one of the best the Police had to offer. Mako rejoined Korra when she went to Southern Water Tribe and stayed with her throughout the Unalaq crisis when Dark Avatar was created.

He rejoined the Police only to join Korra to defeat the Red Lotus. He also played an important role and helped Korra throughout the season. In the final season, he was selected by Wu as his bodyguard until his coronation as the Earth King at Ba Sing Se. And even protected Wu when he was on the run following Kuvira’s refusal to accept Wu as the King.

And also helped in rescuing the Beifongs when Kuvira kidnaped them. He also helped in the final fight against Kuvira.

Personality

Mako had a very brooding type of personality because of his challenging childhood. He is indifferent toward most things. But has a kind heart. All of this aloofness is because of the tough persona he had developed through his years on the street. He always keeps a scarf that his father used with him as his father’s last memory.

And although he never forgot his time on the streets, Mako did soften over time and became more considerate of others. And also started to show signs of emotions more frequently, as evidenced when he gave his treasured scarf to his grandmother, Yin, reasoning that she needed the reminder of her son more than him.

Relationships

He initially developed a romantic relationship with Korra. But was later trapped in the emotional triangle with Asami and Korra. Ultimately Korra and Asami ditched Mako and started their own relationship. This was the first time an LGBT relationship was portrayed in a mainstream TV show.

Your Ultimate Guide To Amon From The Legend of Korra

Amon is probably one of the most ruthless and emotionless villains on the Avatar Saga, including Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. His backstory provided even more credibility to Amon and why he chose this path. Amon was also the first true villain in the truest sense that a young Korra faced. And after their first encounter, when Korra saw Amon remove a person’s bending, she even started to have nightmares about him. Amon deliberately let Korra go as he believed that the Avatar spreading word about his powers was the best way to put fear in everybody’s hearts.

Amon is the main protagonist for the first season of The Legend of Korra. And was the leader of an Anti-Bending Movement that called itself the Equalists. This movement had support from non-benders around the four kingdoms who believed that bending should not exist.

After the non-benders witnessed the cruelties of The Hundred Year War, they were already against the benders. And Amon used this sentiment to launch his movement and gathered support from even the richest of the people. In this article, we will look at Amon and how he became the leader of the Equalists and how he was ultimately defeated.

History

The actual name of Amon was Noatak, and he was the son of Yakone. Yakone was once the most fearful crimelord of Republic City and used Bloodbending to control the city. After being exposed, Avatar Aang took his bending away, and he was arrested.

His gang broke him out of prison, and he came to live at the Northern Water Tribe, the place of his birth. He married there and had two sons. The older was Noatak, and the younger was Tarrlok. Noatak was a very caring child. But when Yakone discovered that both of his sons were Waterbenders. He started training them rigorously and ultimately revealed to them his criminal history. And started training both his sons in Bloodbending.

Noatak was a natural and was considered a Bloodbending prodigy by his father. At the same time, Tarrlok was constantly criticized by his father for being weak. During their training Yakone made both brothers duel against each other with Noatak complying but Tarrlok refusing.

This incurred the wrath of Yakone and he started punishing Tarrlok. Noatak stopped his father by using Bloodbending and called him weak as he was the one who lost his bending at the hands of Avatar Aang. He also shouted that they were his sons and not some tools for vengeance.

After this, Noatak offered Tarrlok to run away, but Tarrlok refused for the sake of their mother. After Noatak ran away, Yakone and Tarrlok searched for him, but he was not found and was presumed dead. Nevertheless, Noatak kept practicing his Bloodbending skills to the extent that he figured out how to take a person’s bending away.

Equalists Movement

After mastering the art of taking anybody’s bending away, Noatak started the Equalists movement by appealing to the non-benders. For this reason, he hid his true identity and concocted a fake story saying that a Firebender killed his parents and that Firebender burned his face. And used makeup to make a fake scar on his face. And started using a mask to hide his face. He also revealed to his followers that the heavens blessed him in compensation for his hardships by being able to take anybody’s bending away.

He also declared that he would take every bender’s bending away to make this world equal for everyone. His mission resonated very strongly with everyone who was ever wronged by a bender. He was even supported by Hiroshi Sato of the Future Industries who supplied the Equalists with mecha suits and Electric gloves to neutralize Republic City police and Avatar Korra. We get to see Noatak’s backstory in The Legend of Korra before he adopted the Amon persona.

Attack On Pro-Bending Arena

He went to the Air Temple Island with his battalion of Equalists and cornered Korra, saying he would take her bending away in the last as he did not want to make her a martyr. After this, he attacked the Pro-bending Arena using his airships.

Equalists neutralized the Republic City Police Force by using Electric gloves to penetrate an otherwise impenetrable metal suit that is even safe from chi-blocking attacks. And made an example out of this attack for anybody who tries to stop the Equalists. This was the first time when Amon launched a full-scale invasion in The Legend of Korra.

Attack On Republic City

He attacked Republic City and took over the city in a single day. Amon also captured Korra and repurposed the Air Temple Island as his base of operations. He proceeded with his plan and took away Korra’s bending. After this, he held a victory rally at the Pro-Bending arena where he retold his fake story. After the story, he was going to take away the Bending of Tenzin and his family when Korra confronted him. She exposed his true identity as Yakone’s son and a Waterbender.

Ending

At this time Mako threw a lightning bolt at him which Amon dodged. But Tenzin and his family were freed, and in the ensuing battle, and Korra and Mako followed him. He had cornered Mako and started to strangle him via his bloodbending when Korra unlocked her Airbending ability. And struck Amon with various Air attacks. Korra threw him off the building into the water and he passed out. But suddenly woke up due to shortness of breath. His mask was lost in the water, and his makeup washed away. Without noticing this he used his Waterbending to create a tornado and lift himself out of the water.

His supporters saw him as a bender and saw the now fake scar removed in the water. As a result, his supporters felt betrayed and cheated and left his support and became against him.

At this sight, he ran away and freed his captive brother Tarrlok and escaped with him once again offering to start a new life. However, this time Tarrlok left with him. Still, it caused an explosion on their escape ship to kill his brother and sacrifice himself to end the first season of The Legend of Korra with Amon’s defeat.

But all of his appearances were very impactful, and he even met Korra, who asked for his advice. And he guided her as he had guided Aang throughout his life. Korra even thanked him because his advice had brought her clarity in what she had to do.

The Legend of Korra is a very different show compared to Avatar: The Last Airbender. But any cameos from the original cast members offer an enjoyable viewing experience for the fans. History

After Avatar: The Last Airbender (TV Show) ends, we get to see some of the events afterward with the help of several comics. Zuko initially started the restoration movement and favored all the Fire Nation colonies on the Earth Kingdom to be demolished, and the residents relocated to the Fire Nation territory. But after some developments and his firsthand personal experiences with the residents of these colonies.

He observes that Earth Nation and Fire Nation people have formed a sort of mixed race in these colonies. These colonies now consist of multi-racial families, with one parent being an Earth National and the other being a Fire National. Their children are even more complex and consider themselves the residents of one Nation but the citizen of the other one. They are essentially making these families members of both Nations.

And he, therefore, pulled out his support for the restoration movement and faced opposition even from Aang. However, whereas Earth King Kuei even went to war over Zuko’s decision, when Kuei himself visited the colonies, he agreed with Zuko. These colonies later were combined to form the United Republic of Nations. And the capital city was named Republic City, which developed into the largest metropolis of the Avatar Universe.

Zuko had always supported the development of the Southern Water Tribe throughout his reign as Firelord. He always relied on Aang throughout his life for advice, and similarly, Aang always looked towards Zuko for guidance. And Zuko always advised him to trust his instincts as the Avatar. Zuko also had a daughter named Izumi and later abdicated his throne in her favor. After his tenure as the Firelord, Zuko moved to Ember Island and became an ambassador of peace for all the Avatar Universe.

First Encounter With Korra

Before the events of The Legend of Korra, Zaheer and his fellow Red Lotus members made a plan to kidnap Korra. At this time, Korra was merely just a child. When the plot was uncovered, Zuko came together with Lin Beifong, Tenzin, and Tonraq to stop the Red Lotus. After the plan was unsuccessful, Zuko arranged for the making of special prisons for all the members of Red Lotus. He specially asked Unalaq, The Northern Pole Chief, to create particular prison for P’Li, a combustion bender in the western Tundra of the North Pole.

Appearance In The Legend Of Korra

We see an aged Zuko in The Legend of Korra two weeks after the Harmonic Convergence. Zuko had been informed about the escape of Zaheer and how he had developed the ability to Airbend. Zuko became particularly worried and sent word to Lin Beifong about Zaheer’s escape. And went to the North Pole to check up on P’Li and warned the North Pole Chief how dangerous she could be if she escaped as well. He even visited the area while flying over on his dragon, Druk whom he had adopted and raised. At that time, he noticed a blizzard which Tonraq pointed out to be a doing of Zaheer.

Zaheer and others took on the attackers head-on but were defeated. Zuko fought valiantly against Ghazan but was ultimately slowed down when a large falling rock hit him. And he could only witness the escape of the fugitives who were able to break P’Li out of her prison. The Zuko and Tonraq traveled to Misty Palms Oasis after receiving word from Lin Beifong.

There he learned about how Zaheer has named his group the Red Lotus. Before this, he had no idea that Zaheer had formed Red Lotus. And that they had also murdered the Earth Queen. Zuko then went to Zaofu to send a warning message to Tenzin who was at the Northern Air Temple at the time.

Advice To Korra

After they sent the message, he made preparations to travel back to the Fire Nation capital. He was going there to protect Izumi in case Zaheer attempted her life next. At this time Korra asked for his advice on whether to give herself up to protect a Nation or not. And wanted to know what Aang would have done in her place. Zuko answered that “it had been Aang’s dream to rebuild the Air Nation, though that he also knew that in times of turmoil, the world needed the Avatar the most”. Korra thanked him for his advice and revealed that he had met Uncle Iroh in the spirit world.

Ending

After Zaheer’s defeat, Zuko went to Republic City for Jinora’s anointment as an Airbending Master and witnessed her getting the symbolic Tattoos. After this, he went to the spirit world to reunite with Uncle Iroh once again.

History

There was not much detail about General Iroh’s childhood in The Legend of Korra. All we know is that he is the son of Firelord Azumi, and at some point in his life, he joined the Republic Forces, where he became the youngest general in the history of the forces. He also became very close to General Bumi, the son of Avatar Aang.

We first get to see General Iroh on The Legend of Korra during the Battle of Republic City. Tenzin sent him a request to assist in the fight against the Equalists. General Iroh obliged and accepted his request to help reclaim the Republic City.

Fight For Republic City

General Iroh comes with his fleet of Battleships to assist in the “Battle for Republic City.” But when he reached the city’s shores, he was surprised at the lack of any counterattack from the Equalists. But to his further surprise, the waters near the town were full of Naval Mines, which destroyed his fleet.

After the fleet hit the mines, Equalists attacked them with their new high-speed aircraft. However, Iroh still did not give up and started shooting the enemy planes from the helm of his ship using his Firebending. And was able to down a lot of enemy planes. It was only when his firebending intercepted bomb midair and the resulting shockwaves sent him crashing into the ocean. Korra then rescued General Iroh.

Korra healed the wounds of general Iroh. After healing, he sent a wire to Commander Bumi, telling him about the mines and biplanes and instructing him to wait at Red Sea Island until they take out the airfield. But when they were infiltrating the field, General Iroh, Bolin, and Asami got electrocuted by the electric fence surrounding the area. And were subsequently captured.

Hiroshi Sato confronted them and told them that they intercepted Iroh’s wire to Bumi and know the location of the fleet. However, they were tied with metal chains and could not escape as none of them were Metalbenders.

At this time, Naga arrived and freed them from their captivity. After escaping, Iroh used his Firebending to propel him midair and intercept a biplane. He took control of the plane, intercepted a fleet of five aircraft, and destroyed them using his plane and Firebending. He contributed a lot to reclaiming Republic City.

Helping Korra

He agreed and covered the movement of his fleet as a routine training exercise. But he was stopped by President Raiko and was ordered not to move the fleet out of bay until his orders.

He also attacked the Dark Avatar with his fleet to help Korra, but the Dark Avatar was so powerful that he neutralized all of his fleets instantly.

Your Ultimate Guide To The Avatar State for Korra

The Avatar state is the most powerful weapon of Avatar. In this state, the Avatar can tap into the cosmic energies. The Avatar State can be used by the Avatar at will only after the Avatar has mastered all the elements. And has also achieved a very high spiritual connection. All the passing Avatars pass their strengths and knowledge to the next Avatar through this state. And therefore, we can say that the Avatar state of Korra is theoretically the strongest.

But the strength of the Avatar state also depends upon the will and spirituality of the person using it. In this article, we will look at what Avatar state is and how successful Korra was able to use this state. And how powerful was Korra in Avatar state?

Avatar State

In the words of Avatar Roku, “The Avatar State is a defense mechanism, designed to empower you with the skills and knowledge of all the past Avatars. The glow combines all your past lives, focusing their energy through your body. In the Avatar State, you are at your most powerful, but you are also at your most vulnerable. If you are killed in the Avatar State, the reincarnation cycle will be broken, and the Avatar will cease to exist.”

Roku said this to Aang, and according to this, the Avatar state might be the most powerful state. But it is also the most vulnerable state because the Avatar can be killed in this state. We even got to witness when Azula’s lightning struck avatar Aang, he nearly died. But was resurrected when Katara used the holy water from the spirit oasis to heal his wound.

Avatar State allows the Avatar to perform exceptional bending feats using all four elements. When in Avatar state, the Avatar might be able to do things that he had not yet mastered. This is because the Avatar state provides the Avatar with the power of all previous Avatars.

As stated by Roku, the Avatar state is a defensive mechanism, which means that even if the Avatar has not mastered this state. The Avatar State can still be subconsciously triggered when the Avatar is in danger. We got to see this defensive mechanism when Avatar Aang and Appa nearly died in the storm. And Avatar state took control of his body and formed a bubble around him and Appa to protect him. He lay dormant in that state for about 100 years till Katara and Sokka discovered him.

Traits of Avatar State

While in Avatar state, the eyes of the Avatar state glow and in the case of Avatar Aang, his symbolic arrows would also glow white. The reason for this glow is that while in the Avatar state, the Avatar can use the cosmic energy of the spirit of Raava. The spirit of Raava is also known as the spirit of light in the Avatar Universe. And the subsequent glow in the Avatar is the light of Raava.

Avatar State of Korra

The Avatar state can be controlled by the Avatar only when he has mastered all of the elements and has achieved a certain level of discipline and spirituality. As seen in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Aang was only able to control this state after Guru Pathik taught him to unlock his Chakras.

Similarly, Korra could only unlock her Avatar state when she had lost her bending ability, and the spirit of Aang taught her to Energybend and restore her energy. She then used her Avatar state to restore the bending ability of Lin Beifong and some other victims of Amon.

Korra is technically the most powerful Avatar as she also has the experience of Aang in her Avatar state. But there has been a criticism on Korra that she has extensively used her Avatar state while Aang used this state only when in dire need. But in her defense, Aang only had to face Firelord Max Ozai and Azula to some extent.

Whereas Korra faced an array of villains that were just pure evil and ruthless. Amon for example developed the ability to take a person’s bending away which only Avatar Aang could do. And in the second season, she faced the Dark Avatar that was formed by the combination of Vaatu and Unalaq. Zaheer was as evil as they come and even poisoned Korra. And if it weren’t for her Avatar state she would never have been able to defeat her. And there was just no way that Korra was going to defeat the giant Mecha suit of Kuvira. The suit was also fitted with an energy cannon making it a force to reckon with.

Conclusion

The raw power that Korra had in her Avatar state is evident from the fact that she was able to create a new portal to the spirit world alone. The only aspect that we can say Korra might be weaker as compared to Aang in the Avatar state was her spirituality. Because Korra was just too headstrong and did not think twice before making a move.

Whereas Aang was calmer than her even when he was just 10 years old. We never got to see Aang in his prime. But from the flashbacks in The Legend of Korra, it was evident that he was very strong in his Avatar state as well. He was able to defeat Yakone against his Bloodbending in his Avatar state.

So we conclude that the Avatar state of Korra is no doubt the strongest among all Avatars in theory. But it was the ability of Aang to control himself in his Avatar state that might make him the more powerful one. But if Korra can ever manage to match Aang in spirituality and self-control, then she would have the most powerful Avatar state among all Avatars.

A Detailed Guide To Select Which Avatar Character Are You

Avatar: The Last Airbender was a popular TV show at the time of its launch. It instantly became a fan-favorite and was one of the most popular shows on Nickelodeon. The show even got a sequel by the name of “The Legend of Korra“. But after The Legend of Korra ended the series did not receive any more sequels. And due to immense fan pressure and the popularity of the series. The creators did release some comic books and graphic novels. At that time all fans started to compare themselves with the characters. And started asking each other the question Which Avatar Character Are You?

After the series ended, it still remained popular with a dedicated fan base. But fell out of public sight in general. All of this changed when Netflix picked up the series and even announced a live-action TV series true to the source material. The show has now achieved even more popularity, than ever before after Netflix picked it up. With this massive resurgence in popularity, the then famous question of “Which Avatar Character are you” has again become popular as well.

Which Avatar Character Are You

If we answer this question humorously, then I really don’t think that any of us will qualify to be called any name other than Sokka. Because none of us actually possess the amazing bending capabilities that made the characters really enviable. But Jokes aside it is not the bending ability that makes us relatable to the Avatar characters. It is our common beliefs that unite us.

In this section, we will list the habits and core beliefs of each Avatar character for you. In this way, you can study these characters and relate yourself to the character with whom you share the most common habits and beliefs and know truly which Avatar character are you.

Sokka

Sokka can very rightly be called the soul of the team Avatar. Because not only did he provide comic relief in otherwise serious situations, he did everything in his power to help the group. He is someone that everyone could always rely on. And is also the one that intricately plans the events that the group needs to follow. And most of all he is someone who is good with the ladies. Most of all, Sokka believed in always helping his family no matter what the cost.

If you have any or even some of these above habits then you are definitely the soul of your group as well in the form of Sokka.

Katara

Katara is someone who might come off as snotty and upright at first glance. But deep down she has a heart of gold. And because of this she always fulfills her commitments. She even went penguin sledding with Aang as she committed it with him. She is also emotional sometimes because of all the stress and care she feels for her friends and family but even in these emotions, she drives her friends to achieve their goals no matter what.

If you are also someone who believes in helping your friends then you are definitely Katara.

Toph

Toph is someone who is emotionally closed off and does not express her emotions very easily. She likes to travel alone but once she finds a loyal group of friends she also has the ability to become an integral part of the group. She did the exact thing when she became an integral part of the Team Avatar. Most of all, Toph is an extremely skilled person who is not shy of sharing her skills but her teaching methods are rather unconventional as she forces her students to hold their ground. Toph is also an innovator as she invented a new bending art all by herself.

If you have any of these capabilities then you can hold your ground and safely say that you are Toph.

Zuko

Zuko is someone who initially set out to prove himself to his father. But along the show, he chose to do the right thing and had the guts to leave everything in order to do it. This is a very rare quality and is very hard to find. Because the right path is difficult to find but it is even more difficult to follow it. Most of all Zuko never has any second thoughts once he takes a decision. He might take his time to make a decision but after the decision is final there is no turning back for Zuko.

If you also have similar beliefs or habits and stand by what is right no matter what, then you are definitely Prince Zuko.

Aang

Aang is portrayed as a goofy character but perhaps he is the most strong character of the series emotionally. As he had to face insurmountable feelings of loss, guilt, and sorrow when he came to know about the extinction of the Air Nomads. But even after what he went through he never let his emotions cloud his judgment and proceeded to fulfill his destiny.

So if you are someone who has iron nerves but still manages to make everyone around you smile, then you are definitely Aang.

Bonus Feature Uncle Iroh

If you respect traditions and have immense knowledge about everything. But still, believe that everything can be resolved with a cup of tea then you can safely drink your tea and call yourself Uncle Iroh.

Your Guide To Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Promise

Avatar: The Last Airbender The Promise is a three-part graphic novel that continues right after the ending of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The show was considered a success at the time of its airing. And it became even more successful when it came to Netflix. But we still did not get any direct sequels to this tv show. The Legend of Korra did not pick up immediately after Avatar: The Last Airbender ended. And was set sometime after the events of the original show. So there was always this urge by the fans to know what happened after the original show had ended. The fans have always been interested in seeing the events between the two shows. And “Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Promise” filled this gap by detailing the events after Avatar Aang succeeded in ending the hundred-year war.

Plot Synopsis

After the events of the Avatar: The Last Airbender, Zuko becomes the new Firelord and, together with Aang and the others, start the harmony restoration movement. This movement aims to disband all the fire colonies in all other nations so that balance can be restored. But issues arise when Zuko is faced with the complex culture of these colonies, especially the older ones such as Yu Dao.

The citizens of Yu Dao have become mixed-race. Most of the children born as a result of inter-marriages between citizens of Fire Nation and Earth Nation consider themselves members of the Fire Nation. They are making it impossible for these colonies to be removed. And when Zuko withdraws his support from the movement, he is confronted by the people of the Earth Kingdom and the forces of Earth King Kuei. The novel focuses on how this crisis is solved.

Part 3

Katara about their collective future confronts aang if the nations are to separate. And she convinces him that this is a new world. Aang understands when the forces of both the Nations are to collide. But is confronted by Roku, who advises him to kill Zuko as this is the only way to restore balance to the Avatar universe. After this advice, Aang severs his connection with his past selves and tells him that the world is not the same as when the last Avatar lived. Aang goes into his Avatar state and uses Earthbending to separate both the forces and protect Zuko.

Meanwhile, Katara reaches the Earth King and convinces him to visit Yu Dao to understand the matter. To which he agrees and visits the colony. Kuei meets the protestors and other citizens of Yu Dao and understands that this is a new kind of world and Zuko was right all along. Zuko, on facing this revelation, faints. After he wakes up, Kuei, Aang, and Zuko decide that this must not be called a Fire Nation colony now, and the foundations of Republic City are laid down in essence.

The novel ends with Zuko confronting a now incarcerated Azula about their mother.

Katara Fire Nation Outfit

Katara wore her Fire Nation Outfit with the rest of the team so that they could blend in with the rest of the general population. The reason for wearing this outfit is that because the Team Avatar was primarily on enemy soil, and they wanted to avoid any extra attention. Avatar Long Feng: The Most Powerful Man In Ba Sing Se

The episode or series of episodes of Avatar the Last Airbender series that features Long Feng is one of the saddest points in the whole journey of Aang as an Avatar. It featured a very sad and depressed Avatar Aang who had given up on hope.

This is the direct opposite to the cheery and hopeful Aang that we came to know. Long Feng would turn out to be one of the villains in this arc. It began when Avatar Aang lost his Bison in the desert at the spirit library.

Losing Appa

Team Avatar, taking a vacation into the desert, started nice like any other goofy adventure they would usually embark on. It, however, took a turn for the worse as everything came crashing down around them and quite literally, too.

The road that would eventually lead the team of four at that time started when the spirit that knows ten thousand things decided he had had enough of humans, abusing his vast collection of knowledge.

He was convinced that everyone that came to the library always sought after one thing; the destruction of their enemies. After the team lied to him about their purpose, he was intent on taking back his knowledge. So he began to sink the library. At this same moment, Appa was being dragged away by sand benders.

Toph, holding the top of the library’s dome using a strong Earth bending stance, could do nothing to help Appa as the sand benders dragged him away. She would later identify the culprits of the heinous crime as the son of the chief from the sand bender tribe. She recognized his voice from when he told his partners to put a muzzle on Appa. He also told them that Appa would be in Ba Sing Se. This was the way they met Long Feng.

Who is Long Feng?

Long Feng was the Grand Secretariat of Ba Sing Se, the leader of the Dai Li. He appeared to be very smart and a very charismatic, influential, and manipulative individual. He got to the position he was by scheming and conniving, clearly resulting from his great lust for power.

He was the Earth King Kuei’s closest personal adviser. As a result of this influential position, Long Feng hid the existence of the Hundred Year War that was going on outside of the Earth Kingdom city’s walls. They maintained this ruse by having the Dai Li, who at this time had deviated from the original purpose that Avatar Kyoshi created them for.

The Dai Li, at this point, had been converted to government thugs under the control of Long Feng. The ruse of a peaceful Ba Sing Se and the war-less world was maintained while the Dai Li supplanted the king’s power over his people.

With the arrival of Avatar Aang and his team at the city, Long Feng captured their lost flying Bison, Appa. He did this as he was looking to get some leverage in advance should the Avatar and his friends ever think to disrupt the delicate balance the Dai Li had created.

His ulterior motives were exposed by the Avatar when the Dai Li could not hide all evidence of the Fire Nation’s invasion from the Earth King, so Long Feng was imprisoned for treason.

However, the Dai Li were still loyal to their leader, and Long Feng struck a deal with Princess Azula to give her the Avatar in exchange for power over the city, though Azula double-crossed him and won the loyalty of the Dai Li, claiming Ba Sing Se in the name of the Fire Nation.

His Seizure of Power

Long Feng was the son of a merchant in the Middle Ring of Ba Sing Se. This basically indicates that he doesn’t come from much. His parents were well to do, but he always wanted more.

He rose from humble origins to become the most feared man in the city as the Grand Secretariat of Ba Sing Se and the Head of the Dai Li.

As Grand Secretariat of Ba Sing Se, this position granted him a special relationship with the Earth King as his adviser as we would eventually come to find out that, in reality, the Earth King was but a figurehead of Ba Sing Se’s government. So it happened that Long Feng was the original ruler of the city.

He truly held sway over the privatizing affairs of Ba Sing Se. As the Hundred Year War with the Fire Nation spread and refugees began pouring into Ba Sing Se in greater and greater numbers, Long Feng decided to keep all information relating to the war away from Earth King Kuei.

In this regard, he thus appointed himself as the sole dictator in matters relating to international affairs. Long Feng claimed that he hid information on the war so the Earth King would not be troubled, but in reality, he only did so to retain his power over him and the city. Control was essential to holding on to the power he had crawled and clawed his way to achieving.

He acted as the Head of the Dai Li, and he used the group as his own secret police. He used them to silence anyone who would disrupt the common peace or dare stand against him. He would secretly imprison these defectors of peace under Lake Laogai.

He also used brainwashing techniques to subdue them. This effectively kept the citizens of Ba Sing Se in blissful ignorance and maintained the illusion that there was no war. However, it became harder to maintain this illusion as more and more refugees that this very war had displaced came pouring in.

He claimed that it was up to him to preserve the last utopian society left on the planet. He planned to do this by covering up all knowledge of the war when he was only interested in holding on to power in any manner and form he could find. His power was so absolute that even the Council of Five could not break through his stranglehold on the Royal Palace.

Katara Hair: Different Ways Katara Wore Her Hair

All through the series, Katara wore her hair in different ways. This was based on the environment she found herself in or what was happening around her at the time.

Katara Hair Loopies

Hair loopies, as Sokka would later refer to Katara’s hair as is one of the signature patterns that Katara wore her hair although the stores. She wore different variants of the same hairdo all through the series.

Hair loopies are a type of hairstyle that is worn in the Northern and Southern Water Tribes. Although these two halves of the water tribe wear the pattern, their hair typically varies in slight ways.

The term refers to the trend among Water Tribe women to wear two loops in their hair. These loops can be formed by pulling back strands of hair on either side of the head and fasten them at the back. This is typically how Katara wore her hair most of the time. A variation of this style is to braid the pulled back strands, like Yagoda, the healer in the Northern Water Tribe did.

Another way to create these loops was seen on Yue. This pattern was seen in how Yue wore her hair in a high ponytail and let two large loops fall. Different variants to the hairstyle indeed occur, but they are generally referred to as loopies. This is alternatively similar to how men in the water tribe wear their hair in a bun and call it a warrior’s wolf tail.

Sokka first used the term when he asked Katara how she would feel if she lost something meaningful to her, such as “her hair loopies.”

After the end of the Hundred Year War, hair loopies were still a big trend among the women in the Water Tribes, as Yakone’s wife donned the hairstyle three decades later. We can see this in the Legend of Korra series. Katara retained her hair loopies throughout adulthood and continued to sport the style as an older woman.

History of Loopies

The pirate queen and leader of the Fifth Nation, Tagaka, used to wear her hair in loopies. Even though she was only partially of Water Tribe descent, she preferred this style regardless. Unfortunately, at this point, the Southern Water Tribe had disowned her entire family.

Katara considered hair loopies an important part of her identity. I mean, it had to be as she had worn the hairstyle ever since she was a little girl. However, a few times through the series, it seemed like she had lost her trademark look. One of these instances was during her fight with Pakku. She was fighting for her right to learn waterbending. At this point, her hair fell out of place.

Other times were when she and Aang battled Azula and Zuko in the Crystal Catacombs under the great city of Ba Sing Se. During this fight, her hair once again came out of place during the struggle. While her hair loopies returned for a short time after that fight, Katara changed her look slightly while traveling in the Fire Nation to blend in with the locals.

She removed her hair loopies and wore her hair down. This was a different look from the original that we were used to, and although she still tied two strands of hair behind her ears, though the loops no longer framed her face as the previous one that sported the water tribe custom style.

During the invasion of the Fire Nation, Katara began incorporating her Water Tribe hairstyle once again. She was seen making her hair at the bank, Aang shaving his head to get rid of the full hair he had come to have after a few weeks out of action.

This style she had was a bit reminiscent of her Fire Nation style, with her hair unbraided at the back, but they’re still was the return of her hair loopies, even though they appeared to be slightly thicker than the previous style we knew her to have.

Kanna, Katara, and Sokka’s Gran-Gran, also wore hair loopies. Katara remembered Kya, her mother, with them in a hallucination, but during the final raid on the Southern Water Tribe, Kya did not bear the hairstyle.

After the defeat of Fire Lord Ozai, Sokka attempted to do a painting of the heroes in the Jasmine Dragon. When Katara looked at Sokka’s rendition of her, she accused him of giving her Momo’s ears. He reassured her that they were her hair loopies. Katara had misinterpreted the hair loopies because of their round, hanging shape that resembled the winged lemur’s ears.

Fire Nation Katara Hair

As we’ve earlier stated, another time when Katara consciously wore her hair differently was when she and the rest of the team went to the fire nation.

As soon as they got in, the idea to steal some clothes and blend in as bright as day seemed even more appealing. This was as opposed to living in caves and eating cave hoppers.

On getting to the Fire Nation, Katara and the rest of the team decided to plan to steal local clothes to live incognito among the citizens.

Aang wears a headband to hide his Airbender tattoos. After accidentally putting on a Fire Nation school uniform and being accused of truancy, Aang is taken to that school. Enjoying socializing like a ‘normal’ kid and realizing the value of learning about the Fire Nation, he enrolls in the school. He later arranges a dance party for the rigidly disciplined and self-expression lacking Fire Nation pupils. When the school authorities learn about the party, the students help Aang and his friends to escape.

Fire Nation Katara wears her hair differently from the usual Katara that we know, as seen in the image below.

She originally wanted to keep her mother’s earpiece but is forced to remove it as it screams Water Tribe. She reveals herself to Aang and the
