The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars (Part 1) starts when Korra and Asami’s tour to the spirit world is cut short because of an altercation between the spirits and the Avatar. Spirits confront Korra about the third portal. And are opposed to this new portal that Korra had created during her battle with Kuvira. Both Korra and Asami leave the spirit world and travel to the Southern Water Tribe. Korra reveals her relationship with Asami to her parents, which they happily accept. Although Korra’s parents receive her decision, her father warns Korra from showing their relationship in public because of the traditions of the Water Tribe.

When they return to Republic City, they discover that Wonyong Keum is planning on developing a new tourist spot in the land around the spirit world. This invokes a strong response from the spirits. The spirits and the Air Nomads urge Korra to close down the portal. But Korra declines, stating that it will benefit Republic City. Later Korra and Asami join Tenzin and Zhu Li in their efforts to rehabilitate the refugees that were left homeless after Kuvira’s war. At the same time, President Raiko is more concerned about the elections than the refugees.

The Triple Threat Triad is now under the command of a new leader named Tokunaga. And the Triad attacks Air Nomads around the portal. They do this on the orders of Keum. This attack leads to a confrontation between spirits and the Triad members. And the spirits change the triad leader Tokuga into a mutated spirit-human hybrid. While Asami is nearly killed protecting him. After the Avatar intervenes, the confrontation is stopped. And Korra rushes towards Asami and kisses her in relief after she is safe revealing their relationship to the public.

The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars (Part 2)

At the end of Part 1, we see that Keum is taken hostage by the spirit-human hybrid Tokuga who blames Keum for the situation. And takes control of his assets. Part 2 focuses on Korra traveling to the spirit world in hopes of reconciliation with the spirits. But the spirits are angry with Korra because she did not close the portal. Meanwhile, in Republic City, President Raiko takes credit for a housing initiative started for the refugees by Asami and Zhu Li. And blames Korra for angering the spirits to boost his popularity.

After witnessing Raiko’s self-interest Korra, Asami and Tenzin encourage Zhu Li to stand in the upcoming presidential elections against Raiko. However, later in the day, Asami is kidnapped by Tokuga. And Korra realizes this only when Asami does not show up at their scheduled meeting with Mako and Bolin. When Korra can finally locate Asami, Tokuga blackmails Korra and threatens to kill Asami if Korra tries to stop the Triad.

In the final part of this novel, we see that Tokuga is planning on taking over Republic City. And to do this, he threatens to kill Keum if Asami does not maki a gas weapon for him. He plans on using this weapon to take over the city. We also get to see how Korra can rescue both Asami and Wonyong Keum. And defeat Tokuga after preventing him from using the weapon. After the Avatar saves Wonyong Keum’s life, he forfeits his claim to the land around the portal to show his gratitude for saving his life.
