Your Ultimate Guide to the Ability of a Firebender

In the Avatar universe, there are 4 basic types of bending abilities. These are based on the four elements, namely Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. Each bending capability is unique and has its properties. All 4 nations were kept separate for most of the Avatar history. This was because the Avatars considered the mixing of all the nations as a threat to world peace. In this article, we will look at Firebending in complete detail and how fire benders use their bending abilities.

Moreover, this article will also explore the time of the first Avatar and how he established peace between different bender nations and the spirit world.

History of Firebending

In the Legend of Korra, we witness the time of the first Avatar named Avatar Wan. At this time, we see that human colonies are established on top of giant lion turtles while the spirits roam the Earth freely. The lion turtles grant the bending ability to select people that need to go to the mainland for food. These people are only supposed to use these bending abilities for their protection from spirits.

We see that Wan gets the Firebending ability from a lion turtle but does not return it. Instead, he uses it inside the city against the elite and steals food for the poor. As punishment, he is banished from the city. He then roams the world, and lives with the spirits and masters Firebending from the dragons themselves. Wan unknowingly free Vaatu from Raava, who then wreaks havoc on Earth by turning spirits dark. He then joins Raava and masters the remaining bending elements under Raava to defeat Vaatu.

At the time of Harmonic convergence, Raava and Wan fuse to form the Avatar spirit and capture Vaatu by defeating him. Wan then sends all the spirits back to the spirit world and closes all the portals so that nobody can disrespect the spirits or release Vaatu even by accident. Wan then tries to remove the differences between people from different bender nations but fails. In his last scene, he is killed on a battlefield trying to maintain peace.

Afterward, the later Avatars separate all the bender nations so they can live in harmony. After that, the world lived in peace, and the nations did not mix until Fire Lord Sozin started his hundred-year war. He started establishing colonies in different nations and razed all the Air temples.

Firebending

Uncle Iroh explained, “Fire is the element of power, consisting of overpowering force tempered by the unflinching will to accomplish tasks and desires.” Firebending is different from all other bending arts in that other bending arts require the control of already existing elements like Earth, Water, and Air. While in Firebending, every firebender needs to create Fire using his chi. Before the hundred-year war, every firebender used to derive their energy from the sun and follow the dragons. This inspiration changed during the war to anger, lust, and personal gain.

This fact is also visible in Avatar: The Last Airbender; when Zuko joins Aang, he loses his will as a firebender. This is because his firebending was based on the aim of capturing the Avatar. So when he joined the Avatar instead, he lost the ability to firebend.

Aang and Zuko then travel to the Sun Warriors, where they meet the last surviving dragons, who show them the dance of the dragons. They also discover that Fire does not meet destruction, and it can be as beautiful as other elements.

Abilities of a Firebender

Every Firebender is usually offensive while fighting. Firebenders can create all sorts of isolated and charged attacks. Those who have mastered this bending form can even control the size and intensity of the Fire they make.

Firebending is enhanced when a comet passes by Earth. Fire Lord Sozin and Fire Lord Max Ozai used Sozin’s comet to display unmatched Firebending powers and skills. Blue Fire is even more powerful than the traditional Fire, and we saw Azula master it skillfully.

Firebenders can also attack with lightning bolts, and we saw Ozai and Azula produce this lightning-bending. Another form of this bending is combustion bending. We also saw Uncle Iroh and Zuko lightning-bend by redirecting lightning attacks.

A Firebender can also use his bending abilities to create jet propulsion and fly. We saw Azula use this capability for extended periods. Firebender can also use defensive mechanisms by creating Firewalls in front of them to prevent any incoming attacks.

Your Ultimate Guide To Water Bending in Avatar Universe

Water Bending is one of the primary elemental bending arts in the Avatar Universe. As the name suggests, it deals with the ability to bend and control Water. Water Bending ability is more common among the people of the Water Tribe. In the Avatar Universe, the people of the Water Tribe inhabit both the North and South Pole of the Earth. Avatar Korra was also born in the Southern Water tribe.

In this article, we will look at how Water Bending is different from other bending arts and what are the highlights of this bending.

History Of Water Bending

Like all other bending powers, Water bending was also given to humans by the lion turtle through energy bending. But when the era of Avatar started, the lion turtles refused to give these powers to humans again. So after this, the people started developing their bending abilities sourcing them from the moon’s effect on tides.

Water Bending uses the moon as its source. Water Benders base their bending techniques on the high and low pull of the tides and represent change based on Water’s everchanging ability. They also use this technique to teach young water benders.

Moreover, Water Bending is the only bending ability that originated from the moon and ocean spirits rather than animals. As a result, the water benders have a powerful spiritual connection with the moon and the ocean. However, these spirits also live in the main Universe and do not reside in the spirit world. Therefore, any adverse effect on these spirits also negatively affects this bending. Conversely, the Water bending abilities are enhanced during the night and in the presence of a full moon.

We saw an example of this in Avatar: The Last Airbender when Admiral Zhao killed the moon spirit because of this reason. Killing the moon spirit stripped the Water Benders of their abilities.

Water Bending Capabilities

It is synonymous with change, and all the movements are exquisite and replicate the movements of Water. The water benders can even extract water vapors and freeze them. They can create whips, octopus forms, and even prisons using only their bending. They can even cause giant waves or a Tsunami if they are powerful enough. Furthermore, water Benders can freely attack with different ice blades or other attacking options by converting Water into ice.

Another exciting capability that water benders possess is that they can create water spheres around themselves to travel through Water. The spheres contain air, so the benders and their companions can travel inside them without drowning. We saw the use of these water spheres by Katara when she transported the team Avatar and Appa through the Water.

This Water sphere can also serve as a defensive mechanism to deflect oncoming attacks. Water Benders can also surround themselves with water rings as a defensive mechanism.

Special Types

Like all bending abilities, Water Bending has several special types that only very skillful benders can control. The first one is healing. In the water tribe, the women also use their bending capabilities to utilize the healing properties of Water. For example, Katara healed Aang from the effects of Azula’s fatal lightning strike that almost killed him.

The other special type of Water Bending is Blood Bending. We witnessed this power when Hama showed her power to Katara, who herself had to use it to save herself from Hama. Blood bending was a central point in The Legend of Korra as we see Avatar Aang strip Yakone of his bending abilities because of his crimes using Blood Bending.

Then we see Amon, who turned out to be Yakone’s son, possessing master-level Blood Bending that even evolved to the point that he stripped Korra of her abilities using Energy Bending.

Weaknesses

Water Bending is also prone to some weaknesses. The main weaknesses that affect this bending ability are lack of movement and lunar eclipses or anything that might block the moon.

The ability to bend Water depends significantly on the arms and upper body movement. So, if you tie down the arms of a water bender, there is not much he can do to use his abilities afterward.

Your Ultimate Guide To Air Bending In Avatar Universe

Air Bending is one of the 4 basic elemental bending types in the Avatar Universe. Only an Avatar is allowed to learn all of these bending abilities. Air Bending, as the name suggests, involves the manipulation of air. The people that have this ability are known as Air Benders. They live in the Air temples. In Avatar: The Last Airbender, we see that Aang is the only survivor of the entire Air Nomadic civilization.

In this article, we will explore how Air Bending is different from other bending arts and how it evolved.

History of Air Bending

During the time of the first Avatar, humans lived in lion-turtle cities while spirits inhabited the Earth. Lion turtles gave the power of bending an element to humans that needed to go out in the wild for food. Unfortunately, humans hunted animals for food and inadvertently caused injuries to the spirits in the process. So the spirits and the humans were not on the best terms. Even when the first Avatar Wan was banished from his city, he did not know there were other lion turtle cities.

After mastering Fire bending, Wan went on a journey to discover other cities when he saw some humans flying. When he approached them, he learned they were Air Benders, and they got this ability from another lion-turtle. When Wan became the Avatar, he spent his entire life trying to remove the differences between different people from different lion turtle cities. But unfortunately, he could not remove these differences even after a lifetime of struggle.

Later, Avatars decided to separate all four civilizations to bring peace and balance to the world. After this segregation, the Air civilization inhabited the top of the mountains that were only accessible through flying bison. They lived in a very down-to-earth way and followed the ways of the monks. This civilization was the smallest of all 4 in terms of population, and most people lived in Air temples. In time, the art of Air Bending also evolved like all others.

Firelord Sozin And Air Nomads

During the time of Avatar Roku, Firelord Sozin wanted to share his nation’s greatness with other civilizations. Therefore, he wanted to attack other civilizations and teach them the Fire Nation ways. Sozin also tried to recruit the Avatar for his cause, but Roku disagreed and forbade him from any such excursion.

Sometime after, Roku discovered the Fire Nation colony in the Earth Kingdom area, at which he confronted Sozin. Sozin realized that he could not complete his wish with the Avatar alive. 25 years later, Roku died in a volcanic eruption, and Sozin did not save him.

After his death, Sozin knew that the next Avatar would be from the Air Nomads, so he killed all of them. Fortunately, Aang survived since he had escaped before the attack. He hibernated as a defense mechanism and woke up 100 years later when Katara and Sokka found him. For the entire series of Avatar: The Last Airbender, he was the only surviving member of his civilization.

Later Developments

After defeating Ozai and other events, Aang formed the United Republic of Nations with Republic City as its capital. He made a nearby island his new home and developed it in the Air Nomad way. He married Katara and had 3 Children. Among the three, only Tenzin was an Air Bender. After the events of harmonic convergence in The Legend of Korra, the balance in the world was restored. As a result, people started developing Air Bending abilities. Tenzin opened the doors of the Air temple island to these new Air Benders to teach them the Air Nomad way of life.

The Stance of Air Bending

Air Bending involves spirituality and is the most passive bending art among all major bending types. Their training is not to initiate an attack but to use defensive tactics if faced with one. Therefore, their stance involves a lot of movement and avoiding attacks.

It is the opposite of Earth Bending, which involves firmly holding your ground and facing any attack. Earth Bending was particularly tough for Aang to master since he always tried to avoid attacks instead of facing them head-on.

Is Lava Bending Earth or Fire Mystery Solved

This question of is Lava bending Earth or Fire has always been a debatable one among fans. However, it has given rise to many popular theories and is one of the most talked-about points in the history of the Avatar universe.

Lava uses Earth but has quite a high temperature and looks like a burning fire. Both these characteristics have given birth to our question of is Lava bending Earth or Fire. In this article, we will discuss some of the most popular fan theories on this topic and explain what Lava bending is, in our opinion.

History of Lava Bending

The first mention of Lava Bending is seen in Avatar: The Last Airbender when Aang sees a flashback or Avatar Szeto performing it. Since Szeto belonged to the Fire Nation, fans usually assume that Lava Bending is also a special type of Fire Bending. However, we again see Avatar Kyoshi split her peninsula from the mainland when Chin the Conqueror attacked.

Since Kyoshi was from the Earth Kingdom, her Lava Bending was then attributed to her Earthbending. Both were Avatars, and could bend all basic elements and their sub-types. However, the confusion remained since it was not addressed directly in the show or following comics.

Popular Fan Theories

The most popular fan theory is in the favor of Lava Bending being a sub-type of Earth Bending. The fans have theorized that although Lava is pretty hot and looking like fire but it is molten rock. No matter how hot a molten rock is, it always remains a part of Earth.

The next theory that is in favor of Fire bending states that although Lava is molten Earth, a Fire Bender can use the heat of this lava to bend it.

We really think that both can be true as both have really good arguments in their favor. However, we can not be certain since there has been no official stance on this question. However, that leaves fans to propose some new and even more interesting theories.

Lava Benders

Lava Bending was a main appearance in The Legend of Korra. A member of the Red Lotus named Ghazan was a prolific Lava Bender. He really could take on the whole team Avatar or a battalion of cops. He was able to bend entire floor, or walls into becoming lava and then controlling it.

During one such attacks Bolin discovered his ability to bend Lava when he saved himself and others by stopping a stream of lava and bending it back into a wall of rock. Later, Bolin improved his ability to the point where Ghazan and he were evenly matched.

Ghazan and Bolin actually showed how lethal Lava Bending can be and how one can wreak havoc if he possesses this ability. Bolic even created a Lava disc where he would carry a couple of rocks with him and then rotate them in the form of a disc and then change the disc into molten lava.

He used this disc to damage multiple Mecha suits when the team Avatar faced Kuvira’s army in the battle of Republic City.

A Detailed Look Into Amon in The Legend of Korra

Amon was the primary antagonist in the first season of The Legend of Korra. He was introduced as the leader of the Equalist movement, which advocated for equal rights for non-benders. The movement ultimately introduced its plans to achieve these equal rights by eliminating all the benders.

Amon claimed that he was given the ability to remove a person’s bending by the spirits that also believed in equality. He further stated that the spirits believed that the Avatar had failed the world and needed to be replaced. Therefore, he rebelled with his movement to establish a new world order by eliminating the Avatar and all other benders.

Background

Amon was born as Noatak in the Northern Water Tribe to a man named Yakone and his wife. Noatak also had a younger brother named Tarrlok. When both the brothers developed Water Bending abilities, Yakone started to train them ruthlessly. Noatak was a Water Bending prodigy and learned everything very quickly. Tarrlok, however, struggled and was often verbally abused by his father.

Noatak tried to protect his younger brother but was stopped by his Father. Time passed, and when both the brothers learned Water Bending to some extent, Yakone took them to a deserted place under the guise of a hunting trip. He revealed his true identity to his sons as a Crime boss from Republic City who had mastered the art of Bloodbending. Yakone then narrated his story and told the brothers that the Avatar stripped him of his powers, and they were to exact his revenge on the Avatar.

He started training the brothers in Bloodbending on different animals such as yaks and polar bears. Noatak reveled in this newfound power and became corrupted by it, becoming ruthless and inconsiderate. One day, Yakone pitted the brothers against each other with Noatak Bloodbending Tarrlok until his father stopped him. But Tarrlok refused to do the same and did not Bloodbend his brother.

Yakone then called Tarrlok weak and tried to beat him until Noatak used Bloodbending at his father to stop him. He further said that it is Yakone who is weak for allowing the Avatar to strip him of his powers. He then ran away alone after Tarrlok refused to run with him. Yakone and Tarrlok searched for him the following days but assumed that he might have perished in a snowstorm that night.

Fabricated Childhood Story

After running away, Noatak developed the ability to disturb a bender’s chi and strip away their bending power. He joined the Equalists movement, quickly rose among the ranks, and became its leader. He fabricated a false childhood story by telling the people that he was born on a farm and a Fire Bender extorted his father.

When his father refused to be extorted, the Fire Bender killed all his family, and he had a hideous scar after the Fire Bender burned his face. He has to hide behind a mask to hide that scar. He then revealed his power to strip anyone of his bending and stated that it is a gift from the spirits that also want equality in the world.

Meeting Avatar Korra

When Korra arrived and started living in Republic City permanently, Amon accelerated his plans. He revealed his plans to rid the world of benders once and for all. For this, he started to kidnap known benders and publicly removed their bending. He began by kidnapping members of the Triple Threat Triad and Bolin. He first took away the bending of a notorious Firebender Crime Boss called Lightning Bolt Zolt and then proceeded to do the same with others.

Before he could take away Bolin’s bending, Korra created a distraction allowing Mako to rescue Bolin. A terrified Korra ran away with Mako and Bolin on Naga. Amon deliberately allowed them to escape citing who better to spread the news of his ability than the Avatar himself.

Maon left a lasting impression on Korra even before meeting her. She also started to experience nightmares in which Amon would strip her of her bending ability. The Council of Republic City declared Amon as Public Enemy No 1, and Amon declared this an example of bender’s oppressive nature.

Korra challenged Amon to a duel without the chi blockers on Aang Memorial Island. Amon did not arrive, and when she was about to leave, chi blockers stormed the Island and overpowered her after blocking her chi. She was then taken to Amon inside the Island’s museum. Amon then met the Avatar for the first time. He told her that she could keep her powers for now. Otherwise, she would become a martyr with all the benders rallying behind her untimely demise. Azula in Legend of Korra Saga

Azula did not appear in the TV series, and even though fans wanted to know about her, there was no official update on her status. However, fans did get to witness an event involving a Fire Nation Shaman that fans think was Azula due to her resemblance to the original character. There is no official confirmation that the shaman was indeed Azula, but fans have theorized that she did not disclose her true identity as she was embarrassed.

Theory

In The Legend of Korra Book 2, Korra is attacked by a Dark Spirit and washes up on a remote island in the Fire Nation. The residents of the Island take Korra to their Shaman. She is extremely skilled, has a vast knowledge of Reiki and Bending, and heals Korra after sensing her spiritual energy. She is the same age as Zuko and other characters from Aang’s time. Another striking resemblance between Azula and the Shaman is they also wear their hair in the same style.

Fans have long argued that this Shaman is, in fact, Azula. She is living her last days and raising Sky Bisons to compensate for what her family did to Airbenders. She has also developed a deeper understanding of the Firebending arts and focused on how this bending can be used to heal people.

It is highly unlikely that the show’s creators did this deliberately. The shaman is nothing more than a coincidence on an official level. If you like this article, visit our website for more articles on the Avatar Universe.

Your Ultimate Guide To Zuko After The Last Airbender

Zuko is a central character in The Last Airbender and appeared in The Legend of Korra. His story arc in Avatar: The Last Airbender received massive critical acclaim worldwide. Zuko was introduced as a secondary antagonist who was looking for the Avatar. He wanted to capture the Avatar and present him to his father, Lord Ozai. We saw Zuko chasing the Avatar and saving him from Commander Zhao to capture him later. Meanwhile, Zuko’s development saw him mature throughout Avatar: The Last Airbender and fulfill his destiny.

In this article, we will look at Zuko’s appearances after The Legend of Korra.

Zuko After The Last Airbender

As soon as Zuko became the Firelord post The Last Airbender, he started the Harmony Restoration Movement that involved the removal of all Fire Nation colonies inside other Nations. He also planned to relocate all the citizens of these colonies to the Fire Nation. However, this plan was met with strong resistance on two fronts. The first ones to resist were the Fire Nation Nationalists, that considered this an act of weakness and wanted to restore Ozai as the Firelord.

The second group to resist this movement comprised the citizens of the said Fire Nation colonies. This was because the older colonies on Earth Nation were established more than 100 years earlier. The citizens of these colonies had intermingled with the Earth Nation citizens and considered them nationals of both nations. The people had inter-married, with one child being a Firebender while the other being an Earth Bender.

Zuko faced more than 6 assassination attempts in his first year as Firelord, and the final attempt was from the daughter of the Mayor of an old Fire Nation colony called Yu Dao. He then visited the colony, understood the population dynamics, and called off the movement unilaterally.

This act was taken as aggression, leading to a war between Earth King Kuei and Zuko. Aang separated them both and saved Zuko from dying. He then made Kuei meet with the nationals of the colony, at which the king also understood the complexity and allowed the colony to exist. This colony later developed in the United Republic of Nations.

Finding His Mother

Zuko was led to believe that he was not the son of Firelord Ozai, so his claim to the throne in The Last Airbender was false. He went on to search for his mother. It was later discovered that Zuko was Ozai’s child, but the Late Firelord Azulon ordered Ozai to kill his firstborn. Zuko’s mother led Ozai to believe he was not his child to save him. She also offered Ozai to give him the throne by poisoning Azulon with a colorless and odorless poison.

His mother was then banished for her crime out of fear that Ursula won’t poison Ozai the same way. After meeting his mother and finding out the truth, his internal conflict with Zuko was resolved.

Defeating The Red Lotus

During the later years of his reign, he teamed up with Sokka, Tonraq, and Tenzin to defeat the Red Lotus. Zaheer, Ghazan, Ming-Hua, and P’Li wanted to kidnap a young Korra. However, their plan was foiled, and all of them were captured. Zuko oversaw the construction of specialized jail compartments for these members of the Red Lotus to counter their bending powers.

After this, he abdicated the throne in favor of his daughter Izumi and became an ambassador of the Fire Nation to the world. He also offered counsel to anybody who sought it.

She never really hated anybody and admits that she and Bumi were both loved but resented the Air Nomad culture because of Tenzin being favored more as a child because of being an Air bender. This also leads her to develop a stronger bond with Katara. She learned the art of Water Bending from Katara and became a Master healer. She traveled around the world a lot till Aang’s death. After this, she settled in the Southern Water Tribe to look after her aging mother.

Bumi and Kya return to the temple to see if Ikki has returned. The next day Kya sees her older brother Bumi standing in front of Aang’s statue and questioning for approval. Kya overhears this conversation and assures her brother that their father would be proud of him.

The next day, however, Tenzin is still unable to travel to the spirit world, and Kya discovers that he had never made this journey before. Jinora and Korra travel to the spirit world, but Korra unexpectedly returns without Korra. The group then left Jinora’s body in the care of her mother and had to travel to Republic City due to Unalaq’s invasion.

They clashed numerous times with the Unalaq’s forces and then traveled to Southern Water Tribe to enter the spirit world through the portal. However, the portal is surrounded by the Northern Water Tribe’s forces, who are captured trying to enter the portal. Kya was integral in fighting and defeating the Red Lotus. She was injured heavily and had to walk with a crutch even after two weeks of care. Kya also witnessed how Suyin extracted the metal from Korra and saved the Avatar’s life. She also caught Jinora’s anointment as the youngest Air Bending master, getting her arrows while on crutches. After this, she went back to the Southern Water Tribe.

She also returned to the Republic City to aid in helping the refugees from Kuvira’s war.

Abilities

She is a master Water Bender and has mastered several attacking and defensive techniques. For example, Kya could break an ice blade off Ming-Hua’s attack and subsequently redirect it to use against her. She also displayed the skill to hold her own against the Red Lotus; however, she was not powerful enough to defeat them.

She is also a master healer and learned from her mother, Katara. As a result, she could treat Bumi’s head injuries without the water making contact with him. Ky also kept Jinora’s energy circulating for almost a week despite the absence of the young Airbender’s spirit from her body.

Your Guide To Bolin in The Legend of Korra

Bolin is an integral part of Avatar Korra’s team in The Legend of Korra. We see Bolin for the first time when Korra travels to Republic City, and he befriends Korra. Bolin’s Pro-Bending tournament was one person short, so he offered Korra to play instead. This meeting becomes a lifelong relationship between Korra, Bolin, and his elder brother Mako. Bolin is an Earth Bender and tries hard to become a Metal Bender like his inspiration Toph Beifong. However, he fails but later discovers that he can bend lava.

History

Bolin was born to an Earth Nation male and a Fire Nation female. However, both his parents were killed in a mugging gone wrong. After his parents passed away, Bolin was raised by his elder brother, Mako. Both resorted to a life of petty crimes and odd jobs to survive. Bolin instantly took a liking to the fire ferret who was supposed to be fed to a giant snake. He broke into the pet shop to save the fire ferret, but they got trapped and ultimately rescued by Mako.

Bolin then adopted this fire ferret and named him Pabu, who also is a series regular in The Legend of Korra. One of the most significant events in Bolin’s childhood was when he discovered Toza, a Pro-Bending champion receiving bribes from Triple Threat Triad member Shady Sin. Bolin got upset and told Toza that he should not accept the bribes and play a fair match.

Bolin still went to the match disheartened when his favorite player was getting beaten up. However, Toza retaliated and defeated all his challengers, much to the ire of Shady Sin. The Triple Threat Triad member blamed Bolin for this and ran after him. The brothers were saved by Toza, who offered them to train in Pro-Bending sports at his gym. Bolin agreed and rejoiced at the thought of a life without crime.

Red Lotus

Bolin was also part of the team when the Red Lotus was revived. They even went to Ba Sing Se to stop the criminals. Mako and Bolin also found their grandmother in the city. Bolin developed Lava Bending and played an integral role in taking down the Red Lotus. He gave stiff resistance to Ghazan, who could Lava Bend entire floors and structures. Bolin initially supported Kuvira and believed she was a better leader than Earth King Wu. But when Kuvira reached Zaofu, Bolin saw the truth and realized that Kuvira quashed all dissenters and sent them into slavery or prison camps. A Look Into The Firebender Personality Traits

Avatar: The Last Airbender introduced the bending of elements in the context of the 4 basic elements. It also described a deeper meaning behind each type of bending. The show explained the nature of each element through bending abilities. We learned that to bend an element, you must replicate its qualities and behave like that element as an extension. In this article, we will look at the traits of a fire bender and also discuss if you possess these traits.

Passion

More than anything, a firebender is driven by passion. If a firebender does not have a passion, he might even lose his bending ability, as we later saw Zuko lose his bending. As per Zuko, his only goal in life was to capture the Avatar, which drove his bending abilities. However, when Zuko chose to join the Avatar instead and become his master, he lost that drive, resulting in his inability to firebend anymore.

So passion is one of the most important personality traits of a Firebender.

Will And Energy

According to Uncle Iroh, “The people of the Fire Nation have desire and will, and the energy and drive to achieve what they want.”

We see Iroh explaining to Zuko that a Firebender has the will and energy to act on that will. But that does not mean that one has to destroy everything in one’s path. We saw Zuko as a hothead who didn’t care about his crew and members and only wanted to capture the Avatar. Uncle Iroh always explained to him that he needs to be calm and will and energy do not always have to be aggressive.

Destruction

Uncle Iroh also explained that following one’s will does not have to be synonymous with destruction. He explained that fire without a clear goal could spread everywhere, causing destruction. For example, the hundred-year war is compared to fire across the Avatar universe. This was because although Sozin thought he should share his greatness with the rest of the world, he chose a destructive way.

He even killed all of the Air Nomads that are otherwise harmless people. So even though Sozin started the war to share the greatness of the Fire Nation, he did it without any clear goal. He did not stop to think for a moment that what he considers greatness might not be the same for other people. Instead of peacefully communicating his thoughts to others, he forced his opinion on other nations’ people.

His war spread like a wildfire that engulfed and destroyed everything in its reach. The war is a source of destruction since it was started without any clear goal. But if a fire has a purpose, it can also be a source of comfort for others.

So if you have the will and energy to use it with caution and think about how your actions will affect others, you have one of the most significant firebender personality traits.

Azula and Iroh are two typical examples of this contradiction. Azula is ruthless and destroys everything in her way, while Iroh comforts and nurtures everyone around him like a warm fire instead of coldness of Azula.

Zuko’s Thoughts On The War

On roaming the other nations, Prince Zuko discovered the reality of Sozin’s war and stated, “Growing up, we were taught that the Fire Nation was the greatest civilization in history, and somehow the war was our way of sharing our greatness with the rest of the world. What an amazing lie that was.”

This realization showed that he knew this war was based on a lie that was started by someone who believed that he was superior to others when in reality, that was not the case.

Conclusion

Having the negative firebender personality traits does not mean a person is bad. Instead, it is based on how a person uses these abilities. So, if you have these abilities, use them wisely to become a true firebender.

Your Guide To Pabu in The Legend of Korra

Pabu is a pet animal of Bolin and has a very fun relationship with the team Avatar in The Legend of Korra. He is also known to play practical jokes on Mako. His razor-sharp teeth, speed, and agility have helped the team get out of many tough situations. He is a fire-ferret and plays a similar role to what Momo played in the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series. He is an integral part of the team and mostly provides comic relief.

However, his role is more developed than Momo’s. He has substantial scenes where he is only the focus of attention. He also developed a close relationship with Naga (Korra’s animal guide), replicating Appa and Momo’s relationship. This new level includes a runner with Naga as well as Pro-bending matches. Fire Ferrets are also unlocked after finishing the game and consist of Mako, Bolin, and Korra.

Reception

The initial reception for the development versions of the game was positive. But the final version was thrashed worldwide because of low-quality cutscenes, very simple settings, and even simpler gameplay especially the combat. The story lacked everything that made the animated series great. All the versions of the game received mixed to negative reviews.

Your Ultimate Guide To Mako From The Legend of Korra

One of the most exciting aspects of Avatar: The Last Airbender is the Team Avatar. Avatar Aang is accompanied by a group of friends he can always rely on. And this aspect was followed up by introducing a Team Avatar in The Legend of Korra. And Mako was an integral part of this new team Avatar that we get to see in The Legend of Korra.

The other members of this new team were Mako’s brother, Bolin and Asami Sato, the daughter of Hiroshi Sato of Hiroshi industries. Hiroshi Sato was exposed for supporting the equalists and was ultimately arrested by The Republic City Police. Early Life

In The Legend of Korra, we see that Mako had quite a tragic childhood as he had to witness the death of his parents while he was very young. And was left alone with his younger brother Bolin. At such a young age, he had the responsibility of taking care of himself and his brother. And to do so, he resorted to any means necessary. Both the brothers pulled small-time scams and used to hustle money and some food through these scams. But still spent days even without eating even a loaf of bread.

While running these scams, they came in contact with the Triple Threat Triad, and while visiting the Triad’s headquarters, they saw a Triad leader Shady Sin bribing a Pro-bending player named Toza. Bolin was visibly upset at the idea of Toza fixing a Pro-bending match and convinced him not to throw the game away. But when Toza won instead of losing, Bolin accidentally revealed his involvement in Toza’s win. This made Shady Sin enraged, and he went after both Mako and Bolin. And attacked them after cornering them. Toza was witnessing this encounter and was very impressed with the brothers’ resistance against Sin. He eventually broke up the fight.

To offered both of them to train at his gym and become Pro-benders. Mako was initially hesitant at the idea but agreed after Toza said they should abandon their criminal lives. And Mako being the elder one, should look after both of them and do what is right. They eventually became Pro-bending players, and Mako became the captain of a team called Fire Ferrets.

Meeting With Korra

Korra was already a fan of Pro-bending when she escaped from The Southern Water Tribe to come to Republic City. So when she was settling in The Air Temple Island, she went to the arena to overcome her boredom. She became a part of the Fire Ferrets after their member Hasook abandoned the team. Korra ultimately helped them win the match and qualify for the Pro-bending tournament, and became friends with the brothers. Sometime later Bolin was kidnapped by Equalists, and Korra and Mako set out to find him. It was on this mission that Korra witnessed Amon stripping a bender of his bending ability for the first time when he took Mako’s bending away.

Korra was later able to restore Mako’s bending. The team needed finances to support their team througout the Pro-bending tournament. And it was Asami that helped the get sponsored by Future Industries. After Asami’s father was arrested for aiding the Equalists, Asami also came to live at the Air Temple Island. Together they defeated Amon by exposing him as a waterbender. However, after his followers saw his bending ability they stopped supporting him and he ultimately was escaped and killed in an explosion.

Later Adventures

After the Equalists movement was defeated in The Legend of Korra, Mako joined the Republic City Polic Department as a beat cop. But because of his abilities, he immediately rose through the ranks as one of the best the Police had to offer. Mako rejoined Korra when she went to Southern Water Tribe and stayed with her throughout the Unalaq crisis when Dark Avatar was created.

He rejoined the Police only to join Korra to defeat the Red Lotus. He also played an important role and helped Korra throughout the season. In the final season, he was selected by Wu as his bodyguard until his coronation as the Earth King at Ba Sing Se. And even protected Wu when he was on the run following Kuvira’s refusal to accept Wu as the King.

And also helped in rescuing the Beifongs when Kuvira kidnaped them. He also helped in the final fight against Kuvira.

Personality

Mako had a very brooding type of personality because of his challenging childhood. He is indifferent toward most things. But has a kind heart. All of this aloofness is because of the tough persona he had developed through his years on the street. He always keeps a scarf that his father used with him as his father’s last memory.

And although he never forgot his time on the streets, Mako did soften over time and became more considerate of others. And also started to show signs of emotions more frequently, as evidenced when he gave his treasured scarf to his grandmother, Yin, reasoning that she needed the reminder of her son more than him.

Relationships

He initially developed a romantic relationship with Korra. But was later trapped in the emotional triangle with Asami and Korra. Ultimately Korra and Asami ditched Mako and started their own relationship. This was the first time an LGBT relationship was portrayed in a mainstream TV show.

Your Ultimate Guide To Amon From The Legend of Korra

Amon is probably one of the most ruthless and emotionless villains on the Avatar Saga, including Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. His backstory provided even more credibility to Amon and why he chose this path. Amon was also the first true villain in the truest sense that a young Korra faced. And after their first encounter, when Korra saw Amon remove a person’s bending, she even started to have nightmares about him. Amon deliberately let Korra go as he believed that the Avatar spreading word about his powers was the best way to put fear in everybody’s hearts.

Amon is the main protagonist for the first season of The Legend of Korra. And was the leader of an Anti-Bending Movement that called itself the Equalists. This movement had support from non-benders around the four kingdoms who believed that bending should not exist.

After the non-benders witnessed the cruelties of The Hundred Year War, they were already against the benders. And Amon used this sentiment to launch his movement and gathered support from even the richest of the people. In this article, we will look at Amon and how he became the leader of the Equalists and how he was ultimately defeated.

History

The actual name of Amon was Noatak, and he was the son of Yakone. Yakone was once the most fearful crimelord of Republic City and used Bloodbending to control the city. After being exposed, Avatar Aang took his bending away, and he was arrested.

His gang broke him out of prison, and he came to live at the Northern Water Tribe, the place of his birth. He married there and had two sons. The older was Noatak, and the younger was Tarrlok. Noatak was a very caring child. But when Yakone discovered that both of his sons were Waterbenders. He started training them rigorously and ultimately revealed to them his criminal history. And started training both his sons in Bloodbending.

Noatak was a natural and was considered a Bloodbending prodigy by his father. At the same time, Tarrlok was constantly criticized by his father for being weak. During their training Yakone made both brothers duel against each other with Noatak complying but Tarrlok refusing.

This incurred the wrath of Yakone and he started punishing Tarrlok. Noatak stopped his father by using Bloodbending and called him weak as he was the one who lost his bending at the hands of Avatar Aang. He also shouted that they were his sons and not some tools for vengeance.

After this, Noatak offered Tarrlok to run away, but Tarrlok refused for the sake of their mother. After Noatak ran away, Yakone and Tarrlok searched for him, but he was not found and was presumed dead. Nevertheless, Noatak kept practicing his Bloodbending skills to the extent that he figured out how to take a person’s bending away.

Equalists Movement

After mastering the art of taking anybody’s bending away, Noatak started the Equalists movement by appealing to the non-benders. For this reason, he hid his true identity and concocted a fake story saying that a Firebender killed his parents and that Firebender burned his face. And used makeup to make a fake scar on his face. And started using a mask to hide his face. He also revealed to his followers that the heavens blessed him in compensation for his hardships by being able to take anybody’s bending away.

He also declared that he would take every bender’s bending away to make this world equal for everyone. His mission resonated very strongly with everyone who was ever wronged by a bender. He was even supported by Hiroshi Sato of the Future Industries who supplied the Equalists with mecha suits and Electric gloves to neutralize Republic City police and Avatar Korra. We get to see Noatak’s backstory in The Legend of Korra before he adopted the Amon persona.

Attack On Pro-Bending Arena

He went to the Air Temple Island with his battalion of Equalists and cornered Korra, saying he would take her bending away in the last as he did not want to make her a martyr. After this, he attacked the Pro-bending Arena using his airships.

Equalists neutralized the Republic City Police Force by using Electric gloves to penetrate an otherwise impenetrable metal suit that is even safe from chi-blocking attacks. And made an example out of this attack for anybody who tries to stop the Equalists. This was the first time when Amon launched a full-scale invasion in The Legend of Korra.

Attack On Republic City

He attacked Republic City and took over the city in a single day. Amon also captured Korra and repurposed the Air Temple Island as his base of operations. He proceeded with his plan and took away Korra’s bending. After this, he held a victory rally at the Pro-Bending arena where he retold his fake story. After the story, he was going to take away the Bending of Tenzin and his family when Korra confronted him. She exposed his true identity as Yakone’s son and a Waterbender.

Ending

At this time Mako threw a lightning bolt at him which Amon dodged. But Tenzin and his family were freed, and in the ensuing battle, and Korra and Mako followed him. He had cornered Mako and started to strangle him via his bloodbending when Korra unlocked her Airbending ability. And struck Amon with various Air attacks. Korra threw him off the building into the water and he passed out. But suddenly woke up due to shortness of breath. His mask was lost in the water, and his makeup washed away. Without noticing this he used his Waterbending to create a tornado and lift himself out of the water.

His supporters saw him as a bender and saw the now fake scar removed in the water. As a result, his supporters felt betrayed and cheated and left his support and became against him.

At this sight, he ran away and freed his captive brother Tarrlok and escaped with him once again offering to start a new life. However, this time Tarrlok left with him. Still, it caused an explosion on their escape ship to kill his brother and sacrifice himself to end the first season of The Legend of Korra with Amon’s defeat.

History

After Avatar: The Last Airbender (TV Show) ends, we get to see some of the events afterward with the help of several comics. Zuko initially started the restoration movement and favored all the Fire Nation colonies on the Earth Kingdom to be demolished, and the residents relocated to the Fire Nation territory. But after some developments and his firsthand personal experiences with the residents of these colonies.

He observes that Earth Nation and Fire Nation people have formed a sort of mixed race in these colonies. These colonies now consist of multi-racial families, with one parent being an Earth National and the other being a Fire National. Their children are even more complex and consider themselves the residents of one Nation but the citizen of the other one. They are essentially making these families members of both Nations.

And he, therefore, pulled out his support for the restoration movement and faced opposition even from Aang. However, whereas Earth King Kuei even went to war over Zuko’s decision, when Kuei himself visited the colonies, he agreed with Zuko. These colonies later were combined to form the United Republic of Nations. And the capital city was named Republic City, which developed into the largest metropolis of the Avatar Universe.

Zuko had always supported the development of the Southern Water Tribe throughout his reign as Firelord. He always relied on Aang throughout his life for advice, and similarly, Aang always looked towards Zuko for guidance. And Zuko always advised him to trust his instincts as the Avatar. Zuko also had a daughter named Izumi and later abdicated his throne in her favor. After his tenure as the Firelord, Zuko moved to Ember Island and became an ambassador of peace for all the Avatar Universe.

First Encounter With Korra

Before the events of The Legend of Korra, Zaheer and his fellow Red Lotus members made a plan to kidnap Korra. At this time, Korra was merely just a child. When the plot was uncovered, Zuko came together with Lin Beifong, Tenzin, and Tonraq to stop the Red Lotus. After the plan was unsuccessful, Zuko arranged for the making of special prisons for all the members of Red Lotus. He specially asked Unalaq, The Northern Pole Chief, to create particular prison for P’Li, a combustion bender in the western Tundra of the North Pole.

Appearance In The Legend Of Korra

We see an aged Zuko in The Legend of Korra two weeks after the Harmonic Convergence. Zuko had been informed about the escape of Zaheer and how he had developed the ability to Airbend. Zuko became particularly worried and sent word to Lin Beifong about Zaheer’s escape. And went to the North Pole to check up on P’Li and warned the North Pole Chief how dangerous she could be if she escaped as well. He even visited the area while flying over on his dragon, Druk whom he had adopted and raised. At that time, he noticed a blizzard which Tonraq pointed out to be a doing of Zaheer.

Zaheer and others took on the attackers head-on but were defeated. Zuko fought valiantly against Ghazan but was ultimately slowed down when a large falling rock hit him. And he could only witness the escape of the fugitives who were able to break P’Li out of her prison. The Zuko and Tonraq traveled to Misty Palms Oasis after receiving word from Lin Beifong.

There he learned about how Zaheer has named his group the Red Lotus. Before this, he had no idea that Zaheer had formed Red Lotus. And that they had also murdered the Earth Queen. Zuko then went to Zaofu to send a warning message to Tenzin who was at the Northern Air Temple at the time.

Advice To Korra

After they sent the message, he made preparations to travel back to the Fire Nation capital. He was going there to protect Izumi in case Zaheer attempted her life next. At this time Korra asked for his advice on whether to give herself up to protect a Nation or not. And wanted to know what Aang would have done in her place. Zuko answered that “it had been Aang’s dream to rebuild the Air Nation, though that he also knew that in times of turmoil, the world needed the Avatar the most”. Korra thanked him for his advice and revealed that he had met Uncle Iroh in the spirit world.

Ending

After Zaheer’s defeat, Zuko went to Republic City for Jinora’s anointment as an Airbending Master and witnessed her getting the symbolic Tattoos. After this, he went to the spirit world to reunite with Uncle Iroh once again.

History

There was not much detail about General Iroh’s childhood in The Legend of Korra. All we know is that he is the son of Firelord Azumi, and at some point in his life, he joined the Republic Forces, where he became the youngest general in the history of the forces. He also became very close to General Bumi, the son of Avatar Aang.

We first get to see General Iroh on The Legend of Korra during the Battle of Republic City. Tenzin sent him a request to assist in the fight against the Equalists. General Iroh obliged and accepted his request to help reclaim the Republic City.

Fight For Republic City

General Iroh comes with his fleet of Battleships to assist in the “Battle for Republic City.” But when he reached the city’s shores, he was surprised at the lack of any counterattack from the Equalists. But to his further surprise, the waters near the town were full of Naval Mines, which destroyed his fleet.

After the fleet hit the mines, Equalists attacked them with their new high-speed aircraft. However, Iroh still did not give up and started shooting the enemy planes from the helm of his ship using his Firebending. And was able to down a lot of enemy planes. It was only when his firebending intercepted bomb midair and the resulting shockwaves sent him crashing into the ocean. Korra then rescued General Iroh.

Korra healed the wounds of general Iroh. After healing, he sent a wire to Commander Bumi, telling him about the mines and biplanes and instructing him to wait at Red Sea Island until they take out the airfield. But when they were infiltrating the field, General Iroh, Bolin, and Asami got electrocuted by the electric fence surrounding the area. And were subsequently captured.

Hiroshi Sato confronted them and told them that they intercepted Iroh’s wire to Bumi and know the location of the fleet. However, they were tied with metal chains and could not escape as none of them were Metalbenders.

At this time, Naga arrived and freed them from their captivity. After escaping, Iroh used his Firebending to propel him midair and intercept a biplane. He took control of the plane, intercepted a fleet of five aircraft, and destroyed them using his plane and Firebending. He contributed a lot to reclaiming Republic City.

He agreed and covered the movement of his fleet as a routine training exercise. But he was stopped by President Raiko and was ordered not to move the fleet out of bay until his orders.

He also attacked the Dark Avatar with his fleet to help Korra, but the Dark Avatar was so powerful that he neutralized all of his fleets instantly.
